We tend to play our best football when Kramer is at his doom and gloom best. He knows this. We should thank him.

Couple other notes on while we'll lose today....

It's Weeden's birthday.

The Browns would set a franchise record for straight losses with a loss today. They're due for a win.

I can't fathom any scenario which ends in the Bengals being the victors tomorrow. There is no way we're winning this game. Heck, I think the Browns are a better team, actually.

Cut and paste the words above for the reminder of the year. You'll save yourself a lot of typin'.

Just need to sub in the weekly opponent to replace 'Browns' in your template. I'm here to help. No problem.

I think we'll just go ahead and do this. I think this team has maybe 2 more wins in them this season. It's a shame we can't play Jacksonville every week.

Someone on this team would actually have to "care" except AJ Green, he's clearly playing for his next contract with a good team when he "graduates".

There's absolutely no way Green stays with this team outside of the franchise tag. Did the new agreement abolish the tag? I have no idea....

He'll hold out, and everyone outside this town will support that decision.

The Bengals have more cap room to use up than any team in the leauge.

I think Green is going to get an offer he can't refuse this offseason.

If he keeps up this pace I'll support it. He's putting up these numbers in spite of poor offensive play by his QB and team. He deserves better. He's too good for us. He really is.

I want to say I vaguely remember rookie contracts not being able to be extended until after their 3rd season. I tried to google it but couldn't find it.

I could be be way off base though.

I'm pretty sure you're correct. They didn't want 'hand-shake' deals where after signing a 'slotted' rookie deal you could then offer much more in an extension. It makes sense that they made it after the third year. It protects the owners from themselves.... Which is pretty much what the entire CBA was about.

I thought it was the second, but I'm not positive on that either.

in either case, the Bengals have tons of leverage on the young players still on the roster...

they have tons of cap room to offer fair market value contracts before players hit FA...

and guys like Green, Atkins etc don't want to risk injury when they can get garunteed money before their current deals expire

I agree.... That's the only way we have been able to keep talent in the past - Pay them the year before they come up. The agents don't give a damn about the team they play for..... If they can get a payday a year early, they sure as hell take it.

Well the issue with Green and Dalton is that Brown will have to be up against the cap for next season, that would be a year short for those guys, assuming they can't be extended until after their 3rd season.

Of course Brown can continue his sign a bunch of "never beens" on 1 year contracts to make space available for the following year.
