It’s because I know that pick like most every other trade dealing an NBA first round pick is lottery protected. Even something as low as top 3 protected has a strong likelihood of not conveying.
If the Pistons want Simmons it doesn’t have to be protected. The Thunder got multiple unprotected picks for George.

That is where the negotiation comes in.

Obviously they aren’t giving an unprotected pick for the 2022 draft.

But 2023?

With a full year of Simmons, year 2 for Cade + whoever they draft near the top of round 1 + anything else they add in the off-season?

Yeah, maybe Philly can get unprotected in 2023.

And still a fairly decent chance that will be a fairly high pick. That possibility makes it highly valuable.

You are completely ignoring the most valuable asset in the deal.

Make it a 3 teamer or use a separate trade and you could get a player better than Grant for that pick + salary.

Add in Maxey and Bey and you have a package worth more than Simmons that teams like Portland will actually want to pay for.

Bey was also shooting like trash at the beginning of the year. He's coming on strong as the clear number 2 on a bad team. I think he will end up being a better player than Hield for sure to compare this deal to the Kings.

Can’t speak for all Sixers fans but the pieces I want from Sac would be Halliburton and Barnes. They fit the Sixers best. Hield is high salary and for me is redundant to Curry. Great shooter that will struggle to defend his position.

That's a very reasonable expectation for a Simmons deal. Don't think Morey would take just that though.

I know Hayes has been literally one of the worst shooters in the league but he has an intriguing upside being 6 6 and a nice ball handler and defender. If he had any kind of shot it make a world of difference. He's only 20.

That's why I think Detroit has a decent shot at pulling it off. May be a three teamer if Philly wants to move Harris too though

So I'm seeing Grant, Kelly O, and Bey plus a first

That's a no? Lol.

Like has been said many times...Morey is being a retard.

If that is an offer and he declines…that is insane.

That is what is being reported. When you see the guys catching minutes yesterday as opposed to what those 3 would bring....I can't even understand that thought process.

But Sixers fans insist Morey knows what he's doing. Meanwhile, Embiid gets another year older and more brittle.

I keep seeing they want Harden. Granted, Harden is a top 10 player, but the two downsides I see are

He's 33 years old next season

That helps one of your top rivals move out of a deal they may end up with next to nothing and instead land Ben Simmons.

That offer has exponentially more value than Halliburton + Barnes.
How so? Halliburton and Barnes are both individually better-known commodities (Barnes) and a higher upside prospect (Halliburton) than any of the three players named in the Pistons rumor. Halliburton is a better prospect for a team that already has a young combo guard in Maxey than Bey. And Barnes is a better player than Kelly Olynick and Grant. And I've already commented on the Pistons pick not conferring because they are a threat to be top 5 in the next two drafts, at worst the end of the lottery and most picks dealt have those protections. You guys have a point when you consider the possibility of turning this into another deal with these assets but that doesn't match with the Sixers goals. Ben Simmons and not the assets you get back for Ben Simmons is what would get the Sixers involved should Luka, Beal, Harden or Dame want out or Boston decides to split up Brown and Tatum. If Simmons adds nothing to his game, he's an elite player already that can be marketed during a rebuild with an upside that is unrivaled among these pieces. Like Saddiq fucking Bey and a lottery-protected first is gonna make a team jump that's dealing for a star? The impetus for a trade now and not the summer when all you need is one star begging out is something that makes the Sixers a contender this season. Da fuq outta here with Bey Grant Olynck accomplishing that. Nobody in that deal gets the Sixers what they really lack...a three-level scorer who can get his own shot and help Embiid close in the 4th quarter.

If the pick is heavily protected forever, then I agree it isn’t worth doing.

But I believe that is negotiable for as early as 2023. And you don’t care when the pick conveys because you are always trading it.

you package the pick along with Maxey + Salary + more picks and make a run at a much better player like some of the guys you mentioned.

First step is that you need a team to be willing to pay a premium for Simmons. Detroit appears willing to do that.

That's not a premium though. It's a journeyman chucker, a salary filler, a rotation guy, and one first-rounder that needs to buck the trend of protections on picks. The Pistons have one premium asset in Cunningham and he isn't even included in the deal. There's nothing "premium" about this. If you stack shit higher, it's still shit.

It is more premium than anybody else seems willing to pay for Simmons.

I think some of you just want to trash Morey at this point.

Grant, Bey, Olynyk and a protected 1st is NOT as good a deal as Halliburton and Barnes.
