If we’re gonna hindsight this thing you need to go back to before Morey was even the Sixers GM. He should have been dealt when he had a sad over Brett Brown handing the ball handling duty to Jimmy Butler in the playoffs. They trade Ben and get those assets and they give Harris and Butler max deals. Embiid Butler Harris and assets back for Simmons is the shit. Then they add Thybulle and Maxey around it? That was the spot. Morey had nothing to do with shitting that bed.

The big mistake was emptying the Cubbard for Tobias Harris

Here’s my argument going the other way. Ben Simmons doesn’t develop issues over night. They’re derelict of duty when they work with this cat and they don’t see this coming based on stuff we here months and years later. Seems like all the signs were there.

If they say all that, they could’ve traded him for any number of guys who wanted out. Including a Paul George (twice)

Not even top 5 bad process moves for me:
1. Picking Ben over Jimmy
2. Trading up to pick Fultz
3. Trading Mikael Bridges
4. Drafting Jah Okafor
5. Pairing Embiid with Al Horford

Harris was supposed to be the third option. They really didn’t give up that much. The only piece I was sad to see go was Shamet at the time.

They got a crown jewel pick for 3.

That Miami pick was one of the most valuable assets in the league at the time. And they used it to get Harris.

The fultz one yeah.

Okafor was a weird draft. There was no perfect fit. Zinger would’ve been like issue #5. That was a time to trade down

I was more referring to the 2 firsts and 2 seconds

Ben Simmons is making money, staying home, Avoiding covid and hurting the execs who lied to his face and the coach who tossed him under a bus.

I’d say Morey is a far bigger loser than Simmons at this point

We have to see the end game before we can correctly rule on who wins and who losses. Right now I’m trending in the direction of all parties will have lost and the discussion will be about who lost more.

I agree with all of this. That’s why I said “at this point”

All it takes is dame to ask out or a new blazers gm to blow it up. Then it’s probably win win.

The only question with dame is how does dame/curry work as a backcourt

Man, would love to have that problem. My plug would be that Thybulle becomes the starter at the three and has to play 35-38 minutes a night guarding the other teams best player. I think a Dame deal would cost them Thybulle or Maxey but hopefully not both. If I’m the Sixers I steer Maxey going back to Portland over Thybulle because of roster fit with the new Dame Sixers. Son of a bitch…you have me believing again haha.

I think Portland would want maxey over thybulle as well.

Throw them bassey as well and everyone should be happy

That’s what I’m saying, if that scenario goes down Morey clearly gets affirmation for holding out. Anything short of bringing back this level player will be weighed against what comes back factored with how much time he let elapse. In theory, Sixers could be working already at fitting the new pieces they get back in the Ben deal with the pieces already here.

Yeah. I just think that’s a deal that happens this summer rather than now

the league basically forcing Hinkie out was ridiculous. Then the league basically put in Colangelo who was a fucking disaster.

Honestly- Philly and Boston were so poised to be the dominant forces in the East- and both just frittered away so many assets.

At least Philly has gotten some of their stuff right like Thybulle and Maxey. Boston really has shit the bed.

I think asset wise Thybulle is more valuable. I like Maxey but I think you can find a Maxey in the draft easier than you can find a Thybulle.

Maybe I am underating Maxey. I dont know. HE is good dont get me wrong.

If it goes beyond the trade deadline then pressure really falls on Morey to get the elite player back.

Boston never recovered from Hayward breaking his leg

Lots of things went wrong

The grizzlies ridiculously move up so they get Morant and crush what should’ve been a crown jewel pick

The Celtics lose the coin toss and end up with Romeo Langford instead of Herro

Trading down from thybulle and Clarke to get grant Williams and Edwards was rough

The entire kyrie saga

Kembas knees gave out mid bubble so the lakers got to side step them

Even things that seemed good like nesmith unexpectedly falling to them because Phoenix did something really dumb like take jalen smith hasn’t hit like expected

And then there’s the weird obsession with kanter who cost them a First to dump when they never should’ve signed him in the first place

They also needed to turn a those late firsts into a jrue holiday like the bucks did

Agree 100%. Only number 4 in my list is a Hinkie move. The NBA really screwed the Sixers but part of that is Sixers ownership getting cucked and steered. They don’t have to allow Colangelo to hire his son as GM.

There was bad luck involved there no doubt.

Hayward's broken leg sucked. If he was healthy and good the whole time he might still be there--- but can you really pay Hayward, Tatum, Brown- really 3 guys who are forwards who need the ball- 90+ million dollars?

Kyrie is the one that really sucks- he showed signs of crazy in Cleveland- but he really started going off the deepeend.

then of course Kemba's knees.

they took some swings but something always happened.

Yeah they had brown Tatum and 3 max guys around them (kyrie/kemba, gh, horford) but seen thing always came up.

They badly miss Hayward and his secondary playmaking skills. Way too much iso ball right now. They needed to figure out how to get lonzo ball last summer
