No doubt they are dumb.

Should put into perspective just how far the franchise has gone to submarine the trade value of one of their best assets.
With Harden they are a 1 or 2 seed in the East right now and a championship contender. I still don’t believe they turned that down, hard to fathom they would turn it down

He sure as shit didn’t look like much of an asset last time I saw him
But honestly I think he would be perfect for the Rockets well the on floor aspect at least. Off the court and locker room probably a bad fit, no leadership or veterans on that team. He needs a Lebron type of leader to set him straight. I think he would have that in CLE with Love and Rubio, also Bickerstaff would be the coach he needs. He set Love straight when he was complaining

The Rockets wanted Simmons, Thybulle, Maxey, Green and picks.

Yeah Maxey was the dealbreaker. I get it but it’s James Harden. Philly offered Thybulle, Simmons and picks. I obviously would do that in a heartbeat if I was Philly

Yeah. From the reports, the deal was done. They notified Simmons that he was about to be traded, then the Rockets changed their demands and killed the deal. It's possible that Fertitta was never going to make a deal with Morey.

IMO, the Rockets completely screwed the pooch with that situation. Even if they wanted to tank, getting Thybulle and Simmons plus picks could have led to them trading Simmons and Thybulle for more picks. Certainly better than the junk they would up getting.

Or you just trade maxey and it’s probably Philly in the finals last year

Maybe. Or maybe Harden gets hurt like he did and isn't in the playoffs at all.

Giving away all of your assets for a 32 year old player is a risky move.

There was a time not that long ago when Ben Simmons was Luka Doncic level prospect. And guys like that on a superstar track are completely untradeable.

Yeah maybe a couple years ago. I feel his value has declined the last couple years but a low right now

And that is the thing.

His value declined, sure, because he was no longer on a superstar track and he was off his rookie contract.

But he still had a hell of a lot of value before this summer happened.

Even today, he still has decent trade value because he is a really good player. But it isn’t nearly enough to command what Morey is asking.

thats bonkers

simmons, thybulle and picks alone i think is a much better offer than they got

it doesnt help that instead of taking levert and allen they got crappy picks.

right.

no one is giving up an elite player at this point. Too much risk. They are going to have to settle for less than they want in all likelihood.

Yeah, the Rockets made a pretty strange trade and I do think that Fertitta preferred a worse trade than making a deal with Morey.

This is probably true.

Still not sure why they didn’t get compensation for Morey
