They did a decent job on getting characters that look the part. So far it’s a 5 or 6 out of 10. They make Jerry West out to be an asshole.

Without having seen the show yet but going off what I've seen of him in interviews and read about him over the years, Jerry West is actually kind of an asshole. He's very good at what he does, but he can also be very blunt. So they might be accurate there

Would like to know how true the events or stories are. They portrayed Magic was close to going back to college. I never heard that.

He was. Magic entered the draft after his sophomore year. From what I remember, had the Lakers not drafted him, he was going to stay in school.

Plus, I'm assuming this series was green-lit by the Buss family. They haven't been on the best terms with Jerry since his fall out with Phil.

John C Reilly going to be really good as Dr Buss

Finally watched it.

I thought it was a pretty good show. Certainly NBA fans should like it (LOL at the Sterling shots fired) and it should be good enough for the non-NBA folk to like to. I like the style of some of the main characters addressing the camera as well. It's a smart device to work in some comedy in a story that doesn't lend itself to that much.

And for those that haven't followed the Hollywood scene around this show, the director is Adam McKay, who rose to fame as Will Ferrell's writing partner. He and Ferrell had a huge falling out and are no longer speaking to each other because Ferrell wanted to play Dr. Buss, but McKay gave the role to Reilly (a good friend of Ferrell) without telling him first. While McKay's ways may have been dickish, he 100% made the right call role wise. Reilly looks like Buss more and is a better actor. I don't think this would work near as well if Ferrell was in the role

Also, all of those finals losses to the Celtics really fucked with him too. As an executive, he couldn't even stand to be in the building when the Lakers played them.

They played up West for comedic sake. I doubt he really was throwing shit around and walking off all the time in the manner that was shown. But like you said, its been documented in Pealman's book (which the series is based on) and in West's very own book, that he's foul mouthed, abrasive and an asshole.. And West attributed that to him working through depression and trauma from his upbringing
