You'd cut Nall in favor of Ginn, carrying only 1 true running back on the roster (Montgomery)? Cohen is a weapon but he's not really a "running" back.

I would love to see Nall backing up Montgomery.

Sick of Cohen.
Cohen is a great little player and fun to watch. Last year he sucked. Cohen has a use and can be good again. But he should not be the main RB back up.

That's based on the assumption, and I think a quite reasonable assumption, that Patterson will in actuality be a de facto RB, even if he's listed as a WR. As big a fan of Patterson that I am, to me he's really not much of a receiver, or at least a route runner. And just about kiss him off altogether on downfield plays. But once the man does have the ball in his hands, he really brings it. I think he's perfectly suited for the hybrid RB/WR position.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-Nall in the least. I was one of the few on this board who thought he should have made the roster out of camp last year. But if something's gotta give, then to me, he'd be the most likely candidate. Of course we could retain him as a FB, but that could be at the expense of JP Holtz, who is bigger and stronger (altho a bit slower) than Nall, plus lines up at both the Y and H Back slots. Plus we already know that Nall can be placed on the practice squad. No team has ever tried pulling him from there, so why should this season be any different.

It's a meh signing...but I bet he'll find a roster spot.

Yeah, agreed. I find that I'm kinda pigeon-holing myself on the attributes that Ginn will bring, as if I'm the board cheerleader for him. LOL

It's really much less that I think he's gonna light up the stat board than it is a reflection as to how little depth and experience we have in our batch of receivers. Sure, ARob, Miller as #s 1-2. Quite satisfied there, but who's #3? Patterson? Wims? Ridley? Their combined receiving stats last year were 35/338. Ginn alone - on a down year for him - was 30/421. We need his experience. Unless something develops down the pike (injuries, new acquisitions, etc), I'm betting he's a lock for the roster.

I would cut Nall and carry Patterson as my 3rd RB.

If anything were to happen to Montgomery. Patterson (like he did successfully in NE for 2018) slides in for the bulk of the carries while Cohen remains in his scat/passing down role.

This move gives us a lot more roster flexibility. Patterson can remain in the same role he had last year (gadget) while also being an emergency RB. It's like carrying a WR and RB at the same time.

Cohen is sort of a luxury player. He only really works when your offense is functioning like it was in the first half of 2018.

On our dog shit offense last season, he was pointless. But imagine what a team like KC could do with Tarik Cohen. I bet he would immediately become a highlight reel.

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. It is a reasonable argument that as our offense goes, so goes Tarik. Maybe if we can get it going a bit more this year, he'll likewise show improvement. One thing tho that I feel is a certainty. I see this as a likely make-or-break year for Cohen regardless how we otherwise fare. If his numbers and overall impact don't improve, he won't be on the 2021 roster.
