Whoa, okay. Now, this is a real signing.

He's immediately our starter next to Jackson. No Deon Bush anxiety to deal with. Makes sense we passed on Delpit a bit more, perhaps.

Brother of our draft pick Trevis Gipson. I was like "I swear, I thought I just saw we drafted a Gipson". lol

More of a pure SS than HHCD was. 6'1 212. Presence in the run game.

If he's fully recovered from his injury (transverse process fracture in his lower back), then yes, a solid signing and he should begin camp as the SS to beat. We have to assume it was a cap issue with the Texans for them to dump him, because they couldn't blame his play.

We are so so so in DEFCON1 "everyone is going to get fired if we f*ck this up" mode...

Certainly gives us more certainty at the SS position. I wouldn't count out Deon Bush quite yet though.

Beggars can't be choosers. Who else is there? Tony Jefferson?

How are we beggars at the safety position? lol. Or at any position on defense?

How is this even a desperate signing? He's a former pro bowler and coming off of a good season.

Why do you think it's unusual to sign veteran players at positions of need?

A stopgap signing.

My bad. I didn't even see that there was a 2nd part to that article. I guess he will be more of a HHCD role.

We do have some cap money, but we're not making any big moves with what we have available. So yeah, we are beggers that can't be choosing. If Gipson was some huge no-doubter impact player, he'd be signed already.

What? He was a free agent for roughly 24 hours. He had just been released. It's like the Bengals and Dalton's 17 mil. They were trying to find a partner but nothing came through during the draft period. If they hold onto him into summer they have to pay him.

I'm wondering if some teams were scared away due to his season-ending injury last year. I sure would like confirmation that he's 100% or at least reasonably close to it.

He was cut and signed to a one year deal.

Yeah, that screams huge impact player to me.

Highly unlikely, if he steps into HHCD's spot, that he outperforms what we got last season. We made a downward move here. No reason to be that excited.

I mean, I guess there's the injury deal where there's that "oh he might come back strong" hope a la Trevathan...but that is most certainly a "believe it when you see it" deal.

His own team was scared, thus they cut him...isn't that good enough for pause?

Granted, it's the Texans...so I guess we could carry some skepticism as to any move that team makes this offseason...
