Not scrubs if the team is put together properly. I love seeing Travis Ishikawa establish himself. Or a player like Brooks Conrad become a meme.

It is dull to just put up 9 bats and then go to sleep. Let’s see how roster configuration stands up to tough decisions. Let’s force the manager to make a choice that has actual ramifications.

When I watch the Angels, I want to see Mike Trout hit. That doesn’t mean I want to abandon the batting order to ensure he bats every inning. I want to see Billy Hamilton on the basepaths when I watch a Reds game. That doesn’t mean I want him to start every inning automatically on first. I love watching Wade Davis mow down the opposition in the 9th. That doesn’t mean I want to watch a 1 inning game just to create that situation.

I like seeing a manager faced with a 2nd and 3rd, 2-out situation in a 1-0 game in the 6th inning with the pitcher due up. Does the manager take the pitcher out or leave him in the game. That is the complexities of the game that makes baseball unique and beautiful. HR derbies bore me.
