I'm assuming McClendon REALLY liked this kid in Detroit.

Definitely upgraded our outfield today with Denorfia and Jackson without losing Walker, Paxton, or Peterson.

I'm happy with this. If Ackley can keep hitting for the rest of this season we can be better.

Jesus though, I can't wait to see Oakland and Detroit in a playoff series!

Does this mean James Jones is headed back to the minors?
Bummer to see that he's been struggling so badly. Been out of town on Navy Reserve AT for a few weeks and only following W/L and the occasional game that was on TV at the right time in Hawaii and didn't realize how bad he's been until I just looked it up.

My guess is Jones and Romero to the minors. I really love this swap if nothing else is involved

I don't care much about the Denorfia part one way or the other.

But I think the Jackson move was pretty good.

that would be great.

Although I really hope Jones gets back to work and doesn't let this get him down too much. Reminds me so much of Kenny Loften, when he was going good.

It saves us from seeing Romero as our Right handed pinch hitter/ starter vs tough lefties

Really good trade landing Alex Jackson for just Nick Franklin. I'm quite pleased with this move.

My issue with this is much like my issue I mentioned in the SD player thread and that is he isn't a long term guy. He is a free agent after 2014 making him a 216 game rental if not traded next deadline. If they can re-sign him, he is the Mike Cameron type move in my opinion.

Mike Salk tweeted earlier that we got Morales/Jackson/De... for Franklin and it was a great deal. It was actually 4 prospects of varying ability for two guys who might be here for 54 more games and another guy who may be here only for another 216 games. That is not a good deal for a team building something (or trying to). So Jack's work is not complete. If he can re-sign these guys for 2 years and Jackson for 4, then I like what he has done....as long as there is more to come in the off season along with a Lester signing.

Do you really think they are going to pay for Lester, Jackson, Iwakuma and Seager all in a short span of time?

Of course not, that is why I am not all that gah, gah over today's trades. They are value trades for a legit team. For a team with so many needs, it is reshuffling the deck.

Thats the hope and we have to hang our hats on for now. I think Jack was able to make the team a little better without giving up a lot. I am hoping they are able to work something out for Jackson long term. I would think playing at Safeco, a priority should be an above average defensive center fielder.

We definitely need him as a defensive player after watching Jones turn singles into triples. Again, these deals today are a good start, but become meaningless if we don't add to them before they leave. If we can keep them (not so much Morales), and add one legit RH, middle of the order bat before the start of next season, the we have something going offensively. We would still need a legit #3 SP so make us playoff worthy.
