As tag deadline looms, Redskins' best option could be trading Kirk Cousins

I think it has to be resolved by the end of March, as both the Skins and the Niners will want to have a solid month to asses the draft after any possible trade. And I honestly think if the Skins intend to trade him to the Niners they are going to want to have it done before free agency starts as the whole point in trading him is to NOT carry the $23.95M in cap cost for Cousins. Also figure we would want to be able to realistically go after any one who we deemed as a suitable replacement..... unless the plan is to start McCoy.

I guess but I can see this going past this time & won't be worried if that is the case - I am in no hurry. As for replacements - who? Just don't see it unless we are looking for a mediocre or worse team & yet another rebuild. Honestly - I see somewhat of a fan revolt if this occurs especially if things turn out poorly next season especially given the way this appears to be unfolding (which could be total BS since the current media doesn't really care about reporting the actual truth).

Let me first start off by saying, I love Cousins. Would love for him to be a Skin long term....

But I have a questions for all of you...

Has he played well enough that he should be the highest paid player in the NFL? Because you folks realize that's probably what he is asking for right?

I don't care what his passer rating was this year. I know QB is the most crucial position and you have tin anty up to keep the good ones. But he is a .500 QB with 0 playoff wins or appearances and has done nothing to warrant 25 mil+ a year.

He and his agent have us by the balls, they know it and are likely taking a more than fair deal and balling it up and throwing it in the trash. They need to come back down to earth.

Again - the highest salary doesn't usually go to the best QB in the NFL - it is all about timing and supply & demand. Even if Cousins gets a huge contract it will probably be the 7th or 8th highest contract in several years as this evolves. If not Cousins then likely some other Redskins QB will get this type of contract down the road. This is just simply the way things are in the current NFL.

My counter to you would be what exactly do they do at QB if they get rid of Cousins?

And that's a great question. It's already looking like
A) The FO is going to move him and move on...

Or

B) We will sign him to some ridiculous $150 million contract and just hope that this isn't just a flash in the pan.

I think Allen/Mac will eventually sign him, but the guy is gonna get paid waaaay more than he's worth. It will be "Osweileresque".

I will be interested to see how he will do when/if he loses his 2 Pro-Bowl caliber receivers. And his Pro Bowl TE is injured 5 or 6 games. Is he the type of QB that will make his receivers look better than what they are? My prediction is he will be closer to average without Garçon and/or DJax.

I think that he can do fine if the 2 WRs leave assuming that Doctson and Reid are healthy for the most part. I think that he played well on several occasions in the last few seasons when several receivers were not available. His problem obviously is playing well in the clutch (regardless of who is catching the ball). This is where he needs to step up. This is certainly possibly, but he has to prove it.

One thing that you didn't mention is that his play could also improve if the Redskins had a consistent, legit running attack. I am sure that they will address this area in the offseason.
