As a rebuilding franchise how would you like your team to rebuild?

Botslayer, if you read my posts you noticed I complimented the Heat several times. Pat Riley was the key to it all, and his alignment with Management.

When I spoke of Miami situation being different, it was a unique situation that has and probably wont happen again. Three players meet and plan it our carefully to go to/stay with one team. That team has freed up the cap space for all that to take place, and, that team has the future picks to make the deal happen...........and above all, the player they get, the best in the league clearly, agrees to take much less than he could have on the open market. many people wonder how that all took place, and I suspect we will learn one day. Most NBA fans suspect Pat did something borderline acceptable, and the NBA is watching now carefully.

So again, Heat are well run, but that deal, "the decision" and the unique situation where the Heat had every piece in place to grab the best player in the world. Just strange.

And I should add, that was not a rebuild, it was immediately becoming the best team in the NBA in on quick swoop. I still cant believe it took place like that. Within 18 months they started winning rings. amazing

Gotta add the one superstar player from the draft and build around him. Much like the Thunder and Bulls did with Rose and Durant.

We got both Magic and Kobe in the draft. We also got Bynum. We could do it again if we would stop giving away all our picks.

Would love to see us get a young dynamic pg who can actually shoot.

Totally agree it is a rare situation but I doubt it is the last time we are going to see it. It is not the first time that a big 3 has been constructed, not even close. It is the first time (that we know of) that the players made the decision. That is special, and I think they made a blueprint for future players who want to win without waiting for incompetent management to get it right.

As for your insinuations that there was back door dealings or what have you, as long as the owners did not call the shots and the players truly take their complete futures into their hands people (especially owners) are going to hate on that. The players should be calling the shots. Owners want to control everything, it is borderline slave owner mentality tbh. Gilbert definitely has that mentality.

Yep this is the best way to go about it. A team may be lucky enough to do the same with Wiggins next year

You actually traded for Kobe from the Hornets, didn't you? Idk if we can consider that as being drafted.

Wiggins will be a superstar in this league and one that a team can be built around for years. Suns get lucky enough to land him, you now have him and Bledsoe to build around.

You need good scouting with either the draft, trades or the free-agent pool. And to be flexible from one year to the next because the best opportunities aren't always in the same place.

you need a top 10.. if not top 5 guy to win titles in the NBA. The early 2000s Detroit Pistons got one title without a top 10 guy.

If you can draft a DRose or Lebron.. good. If you have to sign them fine. Of course you have to build around them. But once you have a top guy, getting free agents becomes a little easier. Miami wasn't the huge free agent destination it is today back in the days of wade/Jermaine oneal/ and Beasley as our best options.
