The Baltimore Colts became the Indianapolis Colts.

The Browns never left Cleveland but Art Modell moved the physical team to Baltimore along with all of the assets.

The Cleveland Browns relocation controversy was the decision by then Browns owner Art Modell to move the National Football League team from its longtime home of Cleveland, Ohio to Baltimore, Maryland for the 1996 NFL season. Subsequent legal actions saw a unique compromise that would later set a precedent in professional sports: Modell would be able to keep the Browns' existing player and staff contracts, but his team officially would be an entirely new franchise in Baltimore, later named the Baltimore Ravens. Meanwhile, the Browns' name, history, and archives would stay in Cleveland, and a new Browns team would begin play in 1999 after a three-year period of "deactivation".

Wow.
You ladies made that one tough to follow.

So...Baltimore was never in Cleveland, but Cleveland is now in Baltimore, but only after Indianapolis left both Baltimore and the NFC, while Cleveland never was in the the NFC...right?
Try to keep up..

1) Baltimore was never in Cleveland - correct
2) but Cleveland is now in Baltimore - incorrect, though it's vague as to why
3) but only after Indianapolis left both Baltimore and the NFC - correct, and incorrect: Baltimore was NFL premerger, but AFC post merger
4) while Cleveland never was in the the NFC - correct-ish, Cleveland was in the NFL premerger, but the AFC post merger.

The NFL Announced last night that the 2021 cap will not be as high as $185M but did say it would be between $182M and $183M, If $182.5 is the cap number then the Patriots will have $66,061,690 to spend.

The NFL Network said that all of the info that's being tossed around about the cap for 2021 is pure 'hogwash'. All of the ceiling and floor rumors are false. Right now, the league and the union are trying to to put as much money on the table as they possibly can and they're trying to work up from $160M. All revenues have not been reported but have to be into the league office not later than 12:01 March 3. That will give the accountant and officers two weeks to come up with the cap number.

Anything being talked about is pure "hope".

an anyone answer me this? C Justin Britt was released by Seattle either yesterday or Thursday. I got an alert that he says he is signing with the Houston Texans. How is that possible if neither players , agents or teams are allowed to have contact about jobs until March 15th??

If he was released wouldn't that allow any team to pick him up? I think what you're referring to is simply free agency and players that are still employed but wouldn't a released player be allowed to sign elsewhere?

This.
If he is cut, he is unemployed.
If he is a Free Agent (unrestricted), that means he is still under contract until a new contract is negotiated before March 17 or unemployed after March 17.

Unemployed or free agent, he's now a free agent. Every college senior is unemployed and not under contract so why couldn't a team just sign an unemployed college senior. Something just doesn't smell right.

NFL free agency begins on March 18 at 4 p .m. ET. Technically, you are still under contract until that date. If you are released, you are released from that contract and immediately become a free agent.
College students are subject to the draft.

I understand that, it just seems stupid to have guys not be able to talk to teams because the rules say that they are under contract until march 17th but a guy released is automatically free to deal with anyone. Those guys under contract actually were no longer beholden to their team once the whistle blew in their final game of the 2020 season.

Everybody needs some rest and family time after the season / Superbowl. Delay in free agency helps everybody.

"Under contract" means they're employed and getting paid. "Released" means they're not employed and not getting paid. An unemployed player should most certainly be allowed to find employment. Sorry but this seems pretty simple.

Not an apples to apple comparison.. more like apples to hot dogs. Sure they're both food, but one keeps the doctor away, the other calls him for you.

Once passing through the draft system, draft restrictions never apply again. The free agent negotiation period only applies to pending free agents and not true free agents. A true free agent can negotiate with anyone and everyone at any time.

The NFL and the NCAA have an agreement that amongst other things, dictates amount of time between high school and NFL, and when and how college kids are recruited/drafted.
