I thought that I'd start a thread where things are happening outside of New England but can have a serious effect on the Patriots.

For example, The KC Chiefs are playing the Cardinals this week and unless the Cards can pull off a major upset, it would be of little effect on the Patriots. What are the chances that there will be an upset?

Next week is a totally different story. The Rams and Chiefs are meeting in Mexico City on Monday the 19th. Some media outlets are calling it the preamble to the Super Bowl because they think that these two teams will meet in the Super Bowl. If the Rams win this game, it changes the entire scenario in the AFC because the Chiefs will will have two losses and the first one was against the Patriots and the Patriots move to #1 and if the Chiefs and Patriots meet for the AFC Championship it would be at Gillette and not Arrowhead.

The Chiefs have two more really tough games following the Rams. The first is against the Raven and the second is a division game against the Chargers.

i was looking at teams' schedules yesterday and was looking at these 2 teams also for seeding possibilities ...

the Pats challenging games are @titans, vikings, @phins, @steelers ... i could see them dropping 1 of them ... maybe 2 .... that would put them at 13-3 or 12-4

The Chiefs have Rams, Chargers, @seahawks .... i could see them dropping 1 of them ... maybe 2 .... that would put them at 14-2 or 13-3

so, yes, i think there is a real scenario where they finish with the same record and the head to head tiebreaker kicks in.

Hopefully the thread can keep to the relevency of "affecting the Pats" or this could become a long and mostly meaningless thread.

Bruce Irvin to me on joining the Falcons: ``This was a dream [come] true. The Patriots and Steelers offered more money, but being able to play for my city and my people, you just can’t put a price on that.''

This may not have an immediate effect on the Patriots, but come the playoffs he may well be a problem especially in the Super Bowl.

Saints To Sign Dez Bryant
November 7th, 2018 at 10:23am CST by Zach Links
The Saints have agreed to sign Dez Bryant, according to Jeff Duncan of The Times-Picayune (on Twitter). It’s a one-year pact that Bryant will formally ink on Thursday, according to Ian Rapoport and Jane Slater of NFL.com (Twitter link). The two sides started negotiating shortly after Bryant’s workout on Tuesday afternoon and reached agreement on Wednesday morning.

The deal brings Bryant’s lengthy unemployment to an end. The Cowboys released Bryant in April, after most of the league’s free agent dollars were already spent. Weeks later, the veteran rejected a three-year, $21MM offer from the Ravens, a decision that has been panned by many. Bryant ultimately got what he wanted, a short-term deal that will allow him to test free agency again in 2019. However, he missed out on the first half of the season and significant cash.

Bryant averaged 91 catches for 1,312 yards and 14 touchdowns between 2012 and 2014, but his averages plummeted to 50 catches for 678 yards and six TDs over the last three years. He also missed ten games due to injury between 2015 and 2016, and some say he wasn’t giving 100% towards the end of his run in Dallas. Some say that Bryant isn’t the player that he once was, but the veteran is motivated to prove the doubters wrong.

All in all, the Saints believe he’ll offer more than Brandon Marshall or Kamar Aiken, two receivers who also worked out for New Orleans on Tuesday. Jeremy Kerley was also scheduled to audition, but weather interfered with his flight.

The Saints haven’t lost since their season opener against the Buccaneers and lead the NFC South with a 7-1 record. After losing supporting receivers Ted Ginn Jr. and Tommylee Lewis to injury earlier this year, Bryant is expected to provide a boost behind talented starters Michael Thomas, Cameron Meredith, and Tre’Quan Smith.

Steelers' Antonio Brown cited for driving over 100 mph in Pittsburgh
2:18 PM ET
  • ESPN

Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown was cited Thursday morning after he allegedly drove over 100 mph on Pittsburgh streets, according to WPXI.

WPXI reports that Brown, who was in a black Porsche, was charged with reckless driving after speeding past an officer.

A Steelers spokesman said the team is aware of the situation and gathering information.

The Steelers (5-2-1) will host the Carolina Panthers (6-2) on Thursday Night Football.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Simple question....you get suspended for at least 6 games if you get caught slapping around your spouse/girlfriend.

Driving through a populated area at 100 MPH endangers a hell of a lot more than one person. If the league is going to get involved in stuff outside of football, shouldn't driving Under the Influence and really excessive speed be suspendable also?

Or is it just the politically correct shit that counts?

"caught slapping around" anyone isn't a good look. Neither is driving to endanger but they are different looks. Certain offenses should demand public service rather than suspensions and better yet, create a fine, then use the fine as part of funding a public service activity... and nothing that amounts to a P/R stunt.

Ian Rapoport @RapSheet

Unreal. #Saints WR Dez Bryant works his way back, signs… and could be done for the season already. MRI now, then he’ll get another opinion. But very bad news.

Tom Pelissero @TomPelissero

Dez Bryant was helped off the field at #Saints practice today after suffering what the team fears may be a torn Achilles, sources tell me and @RapSheet. He’s getting an MRI now.

You can feel bad for any player. This is most likely the end of the road for Dez Bryant. Doesn't help the Saints either. They've got three WR down for the count. We Pats fans know that the pickin's is slim for WRs.

The Saints were looking borderline unstoppable and the addition of Dez could've been nuts. This puts them back in the mix.

Pats win the Super Bowl.

Buffalo is beating Jacksonville in the 4th. 21-14. Not a big deal but to think how far the jags have fallen in a year.

The Steelers lost which is nice to see. The game between the Pats and Steelers becomes even bigger for the two teams.

The Steelers have what should be a more difficult remaining schedule than the Pats.

The Saints will be very tough although having Melvin Gordon out next week for the Chargers is piece of good luck.

The 7 - 3 and overlooked Texans are leading the Titans going into halftime and are looking good. It's very possible they are 8 - 3 this evening. They're remaining schedule is Browns, Colts, @ Jets, @ Eagles, and Jaguars. Those are all winnable games.

I could see the Steelers going 3-2 very easily. They are not in sync this year. Possible losses to: LAC, NE and NO.

I can see the Pats going 5-0. Likely they lose one the way they've been playing or if HFA is not in play come week 16/17 I can see BB sitting some of the vets.

Maybe the Colts or Eagles sneak one out? But I'm not laying any money on it.

The Buffalo Bills are doing everything they can to give away their games against the Dolphins today. The Dolphins right now are fourth in the Wild Card race in the AFC. If the Bills blow this one they'll pretty much be in a bad spot all the way around. They won't match last year and play in the Wild card game and they'll screw themselves out of a deecentdraft position because they'll proably win two more games and finish the season at 6-10. The Dolphins will lose at two more and finish the season at 7-9 and will miss the playoffs again.

If the Patriots win today they will clinch the AFC East for the umptieth time in the last 20 years. Because they shit the bed in Tennessee it could cost them the Home Field throughout the playoffs but they might be able to get home field for at least one game.

AFC East

Patriots 8 3 0 .727 307 249 5-0-0 3-3-0 W1

Dolphins 5 6 0 .455 223 283 4-1-0 1-5-0 L2

Bills 4 7 0 .364 161 272 2-3-0 2-4-0 W2

Jets 3 8 0 .273 221 281 2-4-0 1-4-0 L5

The biggest threat to the Patriots are the Steelers who are 7-3 today. Theuhave a rough remaining schedule. Home today against the Chargers who are fighting to stay at the #5 spot in the playoff picture and will be without Melvin Gordon. Then the Steelers go to Oakland and will have to deal the Jeckyll and Hyde Raiders. They go home for the all important game against the patriots which will possibly give them home field even if they lose to the Saints the following week. They finish the year against the Bengals at home which is never an easy game for them.

The Chargers can give the patriots a huge gift with two critical wins. One against the Steelers and another against the Chiefs. It would put the Chargers in second place and the Patriots in first. It would knock the Chiefs to #5 and if the Steelers also lose to the Patriots, knock them out of the playoffs altogether. The AFC could be a totally different picture in three weeks.

As of today

Chiefs 9-2
Patriots 8-3
Texans 8-3
Steelers 7-3-1
Chargers 8-3
Ravens 6-5
