Former Florida wide receiver Reche Caldwell was shot and killed in Tampa on Saturday. His mother, Deborah Caldwell, confirmed the news to TMZ. Caldwell was 41 years old.

"He was a good person who smiled all of the time," Caldwell's mother told TMZ. "He tried to help everyone he could. He was the type of guy who would take his shirt off his back and give it to you."

Caldwell's mother said her son was "ambushed" by a "couple of people" outside of his apartment who were trying to rob him. He was shot in the leg and chest and died from the wounds in an ambulance en route to the hospital.

Caldwell, who also played baseball in high school and was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 1998, chose instead to play football for Florida. In three seasons with the Gators, Caldwell caught 141 passes for 2,088 yards and 18 touchdowns. The Gators went 20-5 in his final two seasons, winning an SEC title in 2000 and an Orange Bowl in 2001.

Caldwell would leave Florida to enter the 2002 NFL Draft after catching 65 passes for 1,059 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior. The San Diego Chargers selected him with a second-round pick. He spent six seasons in the NFL, with his best year coming in 2006 when he caught 61 passes for 760 yards and four touchdowns for the New England Patriots.

Referring to my previous comment "Poor Ricochet Caldwell, everyone should have a statute of limitation on these type of digs."
Caldwell was shot and killed in an apparent robbery attempt in Tampa yesterday. RIP
Weird that it wasn't that long ago I posted that and on that day decided to retire that nickname. It was more a mock of that moment in time and nothing more. May we recognize that anyone skilled enough to make an NFL roster has already proven themselves. Condolences to his family, friends and anyone else who will miss him from their lives.

NFLPA sent a warning to all teams about the new CBA agreement. Teams may practice in tops and helmets for five days and then must take a day's rest. On the seventh day Full Pads are allowed. No joint, intersquad or combined team practices are allowed at all in 2020. No exceptions.

Seems reasonable

If I was his agent, he would never sign it.

10 years. $503,000,000. $140,000,000 guaranteed. NO Opt out clause.

The only way I'd present that without an opt out is 10 years/ $503M with $250M Guaranteed.

How can he live with himself settling for 140 mill? Maybe if he wins more because his team could, maybe. possibly, afford better players to play along with him? Maybe by being a more significant winner he can make more money outside of his contract?

There are other things at stake beyond maxing out your earnings. Brady never cared if he ranked among the highest earners and he is viewed by many as the best football player ever. It certainly can't be argued he's not the most accomplished between his high stat ranking and his unmatched winning from season, to post season to championships.

Oops, that guy doesn't rank at the top of all earners. What a schmuck?

If you listen vry closely to how the Chiefs and Mahomes did this contract,it's crotch hair from being illegal. The Chiefs have built a "Drop Out" clause that allows them to kill the contract after any year. It's aptly named the "Bledsoe". It's significant in that it allows the Chiefs to re-write the contract after any season to allow them to get cap space. This contract is structured in such a way that the first cap hit doesn't come until 2025 and that will be a direct $60M hit and it will climb significantly every year through 2030.

The Chiefs will drop out in 2025 and they will "restructure" the contract so that Mahomes won't affect their ability to sign or resign players. Believe me, every team in the AFC is having lawyers and cap specialists review every word in that contract.

Eventually, no matter what the Chiefs do, the cap hit will come and it will cripple them. But they're screwing with it in order to keep Mahomes and the this team as close as they can. As one ESPN Capologist said, "You keep screwing around with the cap and it will eventually screw you."

As things stand right now, the contract appears to be okay, but the Chiefs have now called attention to some loopholes and finangling that might just not be something that the league can allow to go unchecked. If other owners feel that it's not in their best interest, they will create rules that will penalize the hell on the Chiefs if they do anything mid-contract.

There is zero chance teams would want to close a so-called “loophole” that enables them to retain control over their elite players and maintain flexibility to rework those contracts to create cap space when needed. The league office has people that review and approve contracts. I highly doubt other teams are expending much if any of their own resources dickering over fine details of other teams’ contracts.

If Mahomes wants to take a team-friendly deal, that’s his business. As long as he’s healthy and producing, he’ll get his money.

Sounds a lot like a guy that used to play here to me.

“Not only does it give me the security I’ve always wanted, but it allows the team to be great throughout my entire career,” Mahomes said, via Nate Taylor of TheAthletic.com.

I thought all contracts were approved by the league office? If so does not matter how thin a line they walked it's approved by league office.

Hmmm, So the Chiefs can kill the contract after any year, just like every other team can do to every other contract... very interesting. Wonder how they thought of it?

If they were smart they would front load the contract as much as possible. If they need additional cap space they can guarantee a chunk more and spread it out. If they don't need the space they can eat down the balance.

NFL has begun testing all players for the Corona Virus.

On Monday it was announced that 95 players had a positive test result
On Tuesday it was announced that 59 more players had a positive result.

Two days of testing and 154 positive results, Unknown how many players were actually test. At this time there are 90 players on all teams' rosters. That's a total of 2880 players. So far 5% of that total have tested positive.

No other facts or data have been made available and the media apparently is more interested in baseball starting exhibition games last night.
