Jose Fernandez? I can't see the Marlins giving up a 23 year old that doesn't hit free agency until 2019 and picking up 20 mil in salary in Gardner and Miller. But weirder things have happened

It hasnt made sense all winter with Fernandez, but his name has been out there all winter

Is it the arbitration thing?

Something stinks there

We're all saying the same things to every proposed deal. Nice to be talking to some folks who actually know the sport

Agreed. It's the Mets that could really use a Gardner/Miller package for a Harvey(or something like that). That would make a lot more sense. The D-Backs offered like their whole farm system for Fernandez and didn't get it done.

I have no idea and he didn't pitch much last year.

Ive said it since October

Mets fans are gonna truly find out how cheap that organization is this winter

They are putting amazing pressure on that rotation

The Mets could use those 2 but the Yanks and Mets rarely if ever trade. But I don't think Gardner/Miller gets it done.
Did you see Fernandez at all last year? For a guy that pitched under 70 innings he seems to be getting a lot of attention

The thing about the Marlins is that they are looking for players to win now, this isnt their 200th rebuild, so gardner and Miller do make some sense.......But no doubt it will take a big time prospect at least

It's not like the Marlins are a closer and Brett Gardner away from contending. You probably need 3 of your top 5 prospects + a Miller here. Gardner is a nice player, but I can't see why the Marlins would want that contract even if he didn't cost any players.

But he got the Tommy John out of the way

I think we are getting to a point where guys have larger value if they ALREADY had the surgery

Yup. That pitching is amazing(and cheap!), but they should at least try to keep Cespedes or get a similar bat. Only the Mets can make New York into a small market.

They even let Murphy walk, who I dont love, but is absolutely one of, if not, their best hitter, the way the team is constructed today

For what? 36 million? Nothing these days

The Met's not spending right noe I kind of understand for a few reasons

(1) Cespedes really isn't a CF and I wouldn't give him more than 4 years
(2) They want to see what they have in Conforto.
(3) They have money sunk into Legares and they want to see if he's healthy this year.
(4) You don't know what they have in Wright with the back injury and they may need to spend on a 3rd basemen
(5) Will Flores be able to fill in at 3rd and 2nd? Walker's good but he can't hit lefties at all. Can't see Wright playing more than 120 games. Walker will probably sit 25 games and the new SS is going to need days off too.

If I were the Mets I would have gone after Chapman and another bullpen arm and look for a bat at the trade deadline once some of these other questions work themselves out.

I saw 2 of his starts. One was great and one was so-so. But coming back from Tommy John, that was to be expected. He still might be the single most valuable pitching asset in the game given his years from free agency, youth and salary.

I agree. It's like the GM's check it off their list now.

TJ Surgery? check
Rehab out of the way? check

They upgraded at 2nd base with Walker IMO plus they have a minor leaguer they love and think will be ready year after next

Forgot about the catcher. Is he going to hit like he's capable of or continue to get hurt? If he and Wright stay healthy and produce they can fill in elsewhere. If not they may need to make a move in those directions

He shouldn't switch but I think Flores plays 30 games or so spelling him against tough lefties
