Fielder will finish with the same career home run total as his father, Cecil, who was a major leaguer for 13 seasons with five teams.
The six-time All-Star is scheduled to receive $24 million annually through 2020 as part of the nine-year, $214 million deal he signed with the Tigers in 2012.
It's kind of a shame too because when he was with the Brewers and even the Tigers, he was always healthy it seemed. One of the things I admired about him..
I agree, the team should be able to get out of that. I can understand having to pay him what he is owed for the rest of the season, but the team should be able to get out of future years. That's devastating to a payroll to have to pay someone $25 million that isn't even on the roster. It just doesn't seem right that he continues to get paid while he's not playing. In the NBA....the team can get a medical waiver on the salary I believe.
Can MLB do the same?
He is walking away because of injuries that were sustained while playing. He SHOULD be paid.It just doesn't seem right that he continues to get paid while he's not playing. In the NBA....the team can get a medical waiver on the salary I believe.
