As the assistant manager I’ve gotta cover for the “big guy”. I take my duties VERY seriously and I’m comforted by the fact that one day I’ll be the manager and someone else will refer to me as “the big guy”! I’ve paid my dues... 10 years in. I figure only another 4-5 to go and I’ll be living the good life!!

We are only open until noon today and then closed the rest of the week. But it's so stupid being open even for this half day. I sell roofing supplies to contractors. Guess how many roofs are being done in Alberta, in the winter, in the snow, one day before Christmas? All we are doing here is drinking coffee and eating Christmas treats. On the plus side I have lots of time this morning to read all about the incredible Seahawk win last night. GO HAWKS, and Merry Christmas Hooplans.

Worked 1/2 day Monday and was busy so I didn't see the thread.

Hmm paid vacation? What is that? Have not had a paid day off in 32 years. The nice thing is I make my own schedule with my clients and can take off anytime I find a good reason to do so by not scheduling any client appointments. I did choose to get some office work done on 12/24.

I had my family Christmas things early this year on Sunday. With this being the case and nothing going on on Christmas day after church I arranged with a client who is in his early 80's and is also a good friend to go to the local Community free Christmas Dinner held over the lunch hour at the local VFW Lodge. They do this each year for those who are alone or dont have family in the area. He is an immigrant from Bolivia who came here in the early 70s when he married an American woman and they never had children and he has no family in the area. She passed away 5 years ago and before that time she was in a nursing home for 5 years. With this being the case he had not had a Christmas dinner in about 10 years. With this being the case I invited him to the free dinner provided with ham and turkey and all the fixings. I made a nice donation to help cover the expenses of what they do on the way out.

It was my first time going to this annual event and was amazed to see how many people showed up the parking lot was full and there was a line to wait to sit down at a table. Many people worked on their Christmas Day to provide this service so others would have a place to go.

I was impressed and shared my gratitude with those involved
