Fuck him. Hope he blows his arm out and never pitches again and dies broke in a drainage ditch on some dirt road and isn't found for weeks and nobody attends his funeral.

Gonna really need you to tell how you really feel. Don't hold back

Play half a season, collect half pay. Snell is immature. I suppose Harper is too for agreeing with him. The family thing is the biggest issue. Lockdown, quarantine. The more I think about this whole idea, the less I see baseball happening in 2020.

Where I take offense is in that somehow their safety is more important than a server at a restaurant. Or a construction worker along the road. It's all a risk for all of us. Our adminstration wants us to push forward so I'm not sure why baseball players should somehow be immune to that. Their families don't mean any more than anyone elses. They're important obviously. It's just odd to me how you make that argument and not seem hypocritical

Why push forward in states that are not yet showing a decline in covid cases. That's assinine. You're saying my idea is hypocritical based on wrong moves to begin with. I'm just saying that the game itself already has the prospect of injuries like any other sport. So, the need for closeness and mingling adds more risk at a time when covid cases overall are not decreasing in a major way.

Nah I wasn't criticizing you. Was criticizing Snell/Harper. Sorry if that was unclear

And as we've discussed case count is going to be a bad way to track this for quite a while. We are testing more therefore the cases will go up

Yep, deaths is what matters. In fact the more case counts go up with deaths flat or declining like they are, the better off we are, shows it's less lethal

According to Ken Rosenthal and Evan Drellich of The Athletic, MLB will offer an "alternative proposal" for player salaries during a scheduled meeting with the Players Association on Tuesday.
The idea of a 50-50 split of revenue sharing wasn't well received by the players, as they saw it as a salary cap, so the question now is whether they'll hold firm on pro-rated salaries or possibly work with the owners on some sort of compromise on a percentage-based cut. Deferring salary for 2020 is something the players have discussed to address the owners' concern of cash-flow amid the COVID-19 pandemic, though this could have an impact how teams spend in free agency and arbitration next offseason. Needless to say, the financial part is coming along more slowly than the measures regarding health and safety. There's an informal deadline of June 1 for an agreement, so there's not much time to meet the goals of a mid-June spring training 2.0 and an early-July Opening Day. Something will have to give this week.

I don’t understand the MLBPA’s position at the moment. I get they don’t want to have anything related to a salary cap in the long term. Right now regardless they will look like the bad guys. So take the goodwill and suck it up now. And if there is a stoppage in the future because of a salary cap fans will remember the MLBPA’s sacrifice.

Saw a Tweet where the owners proposed the players take an 80% paycut for an 82 game season....example a 35 million player gets 7 million.

What a joke.

I agreed with you until I saw the proposed offer today

But the union needs to realize regardless of what owners offer they will be the bad guys. Suck it up, take the shitty deal (not necessarily the proposed) and get goodwill from baseball fans, or most importantly other sports fans for when they do have a work stoppage.

Once you give, you never get back. I don’t believe the owners even want a season. They said it themselves, they are going to lose massive amounts of money this yr. this is all strategy to paint the players as the bad guys. If they don’t offer a fair split I doubt we even see baseball next year.

And baseball goes the way of the dodo.

This is such a tremendous fuckup I can't even put it in words. Neither sides seeing the big picture

A source told The Athletic's Evan Drellich that the MLBPA was very disappointed with MLB's salary proposal Tuesday, calling the salary cuts "massive."
MLB has been setting revenue records annually and has seen franchise values skyrocket, but when one bad year finally strikes, the league wants most of its losses to be assumed by the players, all of whom already have contracts stipulating their pay for the 2020 season. The players will be forced to make some concessions if there will be baseball this year. Not for the good of the game or anything like that, but simply because the billionaires won't have it any other way.

Generally I’d agree, except this is different. Generally fans don’t want to hear players bitching about money but right now there are hundreds of thousands of potential baseball fans that won’t give it a second thought if they don’t play a season over money. It is the one negative about sports, the players are and will always be the bad guy. Unless, you actually try to be the hero. With a simple press release of this deal is terrible for our players but we want to, insert the text, for the fans. It would create the goodwill that baseball needs right now. Get the goodwill equity in right now in case the owners try to install a salary cap. I just don’t get the MLBPA standing on legitimate moral principles at a time like this and instead of coming out like heroes and an escape for people actually struggling they some make it seem like it is a hill to die on, and thus, pretty much killing the sport for the future. The MLBPA is the most powerful union in the world and has been able to slide with the only caring about the here and now, but that isn’t the scenario the world is facing at the moment.

And then it will turn into changing the entire landscape of the game. Baseball is trying their hardest to not cater to only the ADD audience. If they don’t play, that is who they have to cater to and if the MLBPA is pissed about this offer, wait until they are forced into taking lesser salaries because they play shorter games, a shorter season, and less members of the MLBPA because they have to contract rosters because of pitching changes rule changes.

en Rosenthal and Evan Drellich of The Athletic report that the MBLPA's response to Major League Baseball's economic proposal on Tuesday will "insist" on prorated salaries.
They also report that the union will propose playing more games than the 82-game schedule that has been proposed by Major League Baseball. This comes shortly after Max Scherzer - a member of the executive sub-committee - tweeted that the players would not accept MLB's claim of financial distress without proof from the office. As Rosenthal and Drellich note, the MLBPA wants the league to honor the March agreement that the players be paid on a per-game basis with a cut that would exceed $2 billion if an 82-game schedule were to be played. One of the ideas being thrown around by the league is to be paid for an 81-game campaign but playing upwards of 100 contests, with Joel Sherman of MLB Network tweeting that they could play as many as 110. While these things can obviously come together very quickly - and will have to if they want to play starting in early July - there is much ground to be covered if that's going to happen.
