That’s nice but it still depends on what happens between now and then. And with all due respect, MLB owners are not health experts. They’re mostly greedy old bastards.

I am a traditionalist and don’t like changes to the core of the game. But I will agree to next to anything to get baseball going this year. One-off divisions? Sure. Shortened season? No prob. Expanded playoffs? Absolutely.

those all make sense in the chaos that is 2020.

but why institute a universal DH? Does that help prevent spread the disease? Does it reduce the amount of travel teams have to do?

It isn’t a deal breaker for me in a one-off season. I just don’t understand the logic of it, outside of intentionally stepping onto the slippery slope.

This is going to turn into a labor dispute and it’s only going to hurt the league. Too many people are going through tough times financially to want to hear billionaires fighting over millionaires on money

MLBPA officials told Ken Rosenthal and Evan Drellich of The Athletic on Monday evening that a revenue-sharing pay structure is a "non-starter."
Rosenthal reported Monday afternoon that MLB owners had approved a proposal for a 2020 season possibly beginning in early July that included a 50-50 general revenue split between the players and the league's ownership groups. But that proposal still needs to be presented to the union -- there are virtual meetings scheduled for Tuesday -- and it sounds like negotiations could get testy when it comes to the economic side of things. The players apparently want to keep the normal pay structure intact and feel they already agreed to a significant cut in pay in their agreement with the league back in March, an agreement that included a lump-sum advance but prorated salaries based on how many games are played. Health and safety are obviously huge aspects, and unanswered questions also abound on that side of the debate.

I feel that's in there to push it that way indefinitely. They say its because about half the games will be interleague, but what does that matter? 100% of world series games are interleague. Unfortunately it is coming to the NL eventually.

I'm not a fan of the DH, so I don't like this. You would think they would do the opposite to shorten the games.
So the winner of this Jerry-rigged season gets to consider themselves World Series champions? That seems odd.

If the players refuse to play because they are tone deaf about this...

I mean seriously. The teams will be making a shit ton less due to no gate/concessions/Souvenirs/etc. They are saying to the players, for this year, let’s just split proceeds 50/50. Players are saying “Fuck you. Pay me.”

I don’t know that no-DH leads to a shorter game. More strategy = more down time (though conversely, more offense = more play time)...

if I trusted the PsTB, I would be OK with the DH for this year only (even though I don’t know how that helps with the given problems). But I DONT trust the PsTB. I 100% believe this is an in they see to get the DH into the NL.

You might be right, I guess it could go both ways depending on the game.
I see the DH as lengthening the offenses half of the inning. From what I have searched, it seems the AL games are just over 2 minutes longer which is pretty much nothing.

When I wrote last week about the slowdown of MLB games in recent years, I noted that the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox were the two slowest teams. Both are in the American League, and maybe that’s part of the explanation. After all, AL games are played with the designated-hitter rule, which means pitchers don’t have to bat. That allows managers to change pitchers without affecting the lineup, which could prompt them to yank more pitchers mid-inning. Since pitching changes lengthen games — by about two minutes each, according to my analysis — games played in AL parks could be longer simply because of the DH rule.
