I don’t disagree they shouldn’t. But they also shouldn’t accept the fact they will be getting a salary cap in 2021 otherwise they can kiss their sport goodbye.
There wont be baseball in 2022 if the cap is a sticking point imo. Unless they go with a generous revenue sharing option with it.

Or if there is a minimum threshold that must be met for salary.

If there were home games involved in this season I'd be of the mind players could cave too. But I can't blame anyone for saying no to just as much time on the road for a fraction of pay.

There will be a salary cap, I guarantee it if the players don’t play this year. They will have zero equity from the fans and they just fucked over 70% of the MLBPA because they were offering 90% of their salary.

There essentially is a minimum threshold right now because the owners agreed upon a warped luxury tax.

I can’t blame any MLBPA member for not wanting to play without receiving every penny of the contract they signed because the owners will still make money if zero fans show up. But problem is the players have to choose to fight this fight or the next CBA and if they stand firm on this one the sport won’t be healthy enough in 2021 to get what they want, which is not having the status quo of fucking over the younger guys so vets can get ridiculous contracts.

I don't see a majority of owners wanting a hard cap.

Half the luxury tax money goes to the cheap skate owners that don't care if they win.

A 50 gm season would be bad ass but no chance the players agree to it

Why? Because they would "only" make roughly 30% of their normal contract?

I did the math for a player earning $3 mil per...they would make $900k for 50 games...still $18k per game.

I think a starting point is revenue sharing and minimum spending

The cap would mean no more ridiculous Bryce Harper type deals but I think 90 percent of players would make more

I don’t feel good about this year, and I am less than fully confident about 2021 as well.

One of the reasons I am usually on the owners side during these things is because the owners accept most of the financial risk.

Well, the current climate falls directly under the header of “risk”. The players signed contracts. The owners signed the exact same contracts. If a game gets rained out, the players do not lose a game check. If they have to play a 163, they do not GAIN a paycheck.

I feel very Karl Marx in saying this, and hurts to my very core, but I think I am on the players side on this one. And I believe they should be paid their ENTIRE contracts. However, with that gives the owners the right to pretty much dictate how many games get played and how. If the owners schedule games, then the players need to choose if they want to play or not. If they don’t, then they start forfeiting portions of their pay.

I'm 90% sure that if they don't play baseball this season, I'm done as a fan of MLB.
this is the sentiment. baseball is ripping its own nuts off.

I'm not crying.

But I have enough respect for myself to not take an 80% paycut from a guaranteed contract. Won't be baseball players I blame when there is no baseball season.

You're very much crying and you'd be wrong, because they would be the reason for no season. Take the one season hit to your salary, shut the fuck right up and do better at the bargaining table in 2021. Or cancel the season and be the reason your sport will be less popular than the WNBA. Your choice.

serious question, I'm not a lawyer, I just play the best one on TV

If a mlb team or any sports team decides to claim bankruptcy, say the Oakland A's or Miami Marlins, are they off the hook of having to pay the players salaries that were aready signed?

Man if they did something like that I am sure no quality free agent would ever want to sign with those teams unless they change owners
