Are the Devs about 3 mil over the cap now? Who do you see being moved? Unfortunately i don't think it will be Rolston. (unless some gm owes Lou a HUGE favor...):)

well see you guys already have a semi productive old man in mikey mo.

difference he can be a leader too

rollie is a decent 20 goal scorer if he's on the top 2 lines... problem is hes not gonna be on the top 2 lines in jersey. he hasn't been for the past 2 years and he's definately not going to be this year. so (and i know you're just joking) but of course detroit has no use for a player like him

sbb, to answer your question i think there are 2... maybe 3 teams you can trade rolston too. but only one thats a true possibility.
the 2 far shots, colorado and atlanta. tons of cap room and tons of young players, and he could very well get himself a top 6 job, and play point on the powerplay in those places. but atlanta has had a ton of turnover the past few months and may think tinkering any more could be counter productive and colorado is a long way away for rollie to waive his NTC for when he is a home owner in nj and his family is established here.

the only true possibility (in my eyes) is the island. they could use a person to help doug weight mentor the kids, and no matter what way you spin it, when you look at that roster, rolston does make that team better. am i saying its likely? no i think its wishful thinking. but it is a fit that both teams win out on IMO. devils get their cap room. isles improve a bit short term and get someone to 1. take pressure off kids, and 2. mentor them.

i do like rollie. good guy and loyal soldier. but in a 3rd line roll at 2 mil of cap room. 2.5 max.
which obviously limits his suitors. there are only a couple of team like i stated who could make that work to their advantage....

otherwise you will most likely be seeing some combo of.....
ZUBRUS, langenbrunner, white SALVADOR on the outs.

the ones in caps as the most likely.... sad because their the 2 devils fans would most want to keep.

and bolts i wouldn't be suprised if you guys GET a first out of a rolston deal if it happened. gotta give something to get rid of a problem (not that rollie is that specific problem, more a casualty)

rollie and a 1st for a 3rd or something.

and i think i woud do it.... devils don't usually pick til late. our prospect pool is stocked with d men and we have a log jam at wing and moderate center depth COMING UP.

wouldn't it be cheaper to waive him?

He was signed when he was 35 so unless the Devils trade him we're stuck with his cap hit. I agree and have been saying for a while that the Island would be the best fit if we were to trade Rolston.

However I agree with Devs30 that Zubrus and Salvador are the most likely to go. Reasonable cap hits and still good players given the right situation.

The problem with trading Rolston to the Islanders is they don't need any help reaching the cap floor. They're already just over 1 million over. I'll be surprised if the Devils are able to trade Rolston unless they give up something else pretty good with him. There might also be a backlash from the teams who weren't able to get a break on a contract like the deals Hossa, Luongo, Savard & Kovy signed.

I don't see the Islanders doing a division rival any favors.

well thats why i think IF any deal with the isles is possible its going to be something like rolston and 2nd for a 4th.

the devils lost their leverage with the isles having made it to the floor already so you have to make them the clear winnders of the trade individually

Elias, vastly overpaid at $6m, or Arnott at $4.5m
both have no movement clauses, but so does Rolston, for that matter.

It should be noted, that they are $3m over the cap,
still with 2 players needed to fill out the roster.

ask any devils fan. elias is not overpaid. the guy is, outside of brodeur, maybe the heart and soul of the team. and in many's opinions that will include parise.
the team winning percentage without him is downright horrid. the massive slump towards the end of the year didn't improve til he came back, and largely began after he got hut in colorado.
and we just got arny. he's not expendable for the main reason that if he goes, we have rookies in both the 2nd and 3rd line center jobs as opposed to just the 3rd line.

i don't mean to sound like a dick but IMO neither of these guys are expendable

not too mention the fact that when he is healthy elias is capable of 70 + points.. right at that 5.5-6 mil range.

I'm not saying they are expendable (or even tat the Isles would want them), just that they are the only guys with a big enough salary to make a difference. strictly looking at numbers.

capable, yes. He's passed 70 once since the lock-out.

i got ya bro, no worried my mistake

i'll stick to my theory tho on elias being a massively unheralded talent.

the one thing you have to look at as far as his offensive production post lockout was until the arrival kovy, his best linemate has largely been brian gionta.

and its not meant to knock gio great player, but he's also very straight forward and not much flow to his game, which isn't the type of player elias molds with, his game lives off of creativity. this year i think is going to be his best oppurtunity to have linemates he truely fits with in a loooong time.

hell since about 2001-2002. even in 03 it was elias gomez GRANT MARSHALL.

this year you'll probably see Kovy-Arnott-Elias.

2 very creative dynamic players in kovy and elias, 2 tremendous shots in kovy and arnott
arnott is great for picking up trash in front of the net too as well as has some ability to dish, which is also patties strong suit. i think there is big potential for this line... as old as it may be overall
