Barry has to be in the convo for GOAT.

Gale's style was years ahead of its time, and part of why he got hurt. Had it been today, he'd of continued to play, and probably dominated.

I still assert, that Walter was the best FOOTBALL PLAYER that ever was, and probably ever will be.

Again you can only assume......you can also assume that Gale may have been hurt again.......

if???

Just gave my opinion . I loved Walter. But if Sayers lasted 12 yrs. I have no doubt they'd still be chasing him. Unless of course Brown played 12 yrs. also. The same could be said about many of the great backs that played the game .
Walter withstood the test of time. For which I give him kudos.
But if I to pick a RB in his prime for 1 game, and Brown was off the board . I'd take Gale.
Again just MO.

Again the word "IF" surrounds Gale... IF Walter had better blocking....IF Walter had a better surrounding cast. IF Walter was faster.

Actually, Gale made an attempted come back after his bad first knee injury, he wasn't the same player, medical science limited his ability to come back. He then had a second injury, a final knee injury, that put him out of the nfl.
Today, either injury would have been easily delt with and with possibly no after effects.

I actually like what, I think, the NFL did a while back when they compiled a list of greatest running backs, then re compiled a list of the greatest elusive running backs, its on Youtube. When you talk power, balance, speed you think about Walter, Brown, Cambell, etc.. When you talk about elusive backs you talk about Sanders, Sayers, OJ, etc...

There really is a difference, and why when we talk about pure runners I like Gale over Walter. And why I take him given one choice, but Walter was amazing no doubt. I said it above, most have been hard as hell to tackle him.
