It was a forgone conclusion that Ball was the ROTY just a month and a half ago but, what about now? Edwards is balling hard and i think has taken the lead. Thoughts?
This was basically given to Ball before the injury. Edwards has increased his efficiency and play every month, but people are still locked into Ball, and Edwards is still viewed as the player he was at the start of the year.It was a forgone conclusion that Ball was the ROTY just a month and a half ago but, what about now? LOL.
This is pretty much my take as well. Edwards is averaging 23.9 pts per game in the last month. And the wolves acrually have a winning record!!This was basically given to Ball before the injury. I think Edwards deserves it, but he won't get it. Ball was anointed before the halfway point of the season, and people won't change their mind.
A couple elvis songs just jumped into my head.
LaMelo Ball.
Edwards looked hopeless in the first month. He has all star stats since becoming a starter. I think that 40+ point game against memphis sealed it for ball, but Edwards definitely has heads turning recently.According to the Elias Sports Bureau LaMelo's the first player in 60 years to lead all rookies in points (533), rebounds (211), assists (221) and steals (57) heading into the all star break. And he didn't become a starter until Feb. 1.

Edwards is leading in points and points per game now. But i see your point.LaMelo deserves it and he will likely get it. He's played well since the start and despite missing games, as @Wamu pointed out in post #8, he leads rookies in points, rebounds, assists and steals. That hasn't been done in 60 years.
Edwards playing well now, doesn't erase his poor start and La Melo coming back after initially being reported as out for the year, will lessen the impact of his missed games.
If LaMelo didn't come back, then Edwards would definitely be the guy to get it.
I would say Edwards 1st 21 games are better than the 21 Ball did not play, so I worry less about his slow start on that front. Edwards last month and a half have been absolutely fantastic, although the 4 games in May are not really sustainable for him at this point.LaMelo deserves it and he will likely get it. Maybe since both have had good rookie years they'll be co-ROY? It's happened before.
