Well from the sound of it we are talking biggest contract on a per year basis in the history of the game topping Joe Flacco.

Wow, under 25 per on the years then. Not bad. Was expecting that to be the over/under.

And I believe with that, Brock Osweiler's major deal no longer pays him in the top half of NFL starters.

To me it is not the issue of where he falls when it comes to getting paid on a per year basis. To me with QB's it is how much of the cap are they taking up compared to the production they actually bring on the field. We see way too many average to even below average QB's in the league taking up huge chunks of the cap and honestly being more of a liability than a help. To me if you are going to pay a QB say $16 million or more a year you are expecting them to be one of the key contributors in why your team is winning not the other way around where the rest of the team has to rise up to make up for a mediocre QB. So while we now have something like 22 QB's making $16 million or more we have obviously seen plenty of those teams continue to be mediocre at best year in and year out and to me a big part of that is paying your QB the most money on the team when they are not even a top-10 player at their position. I know the QB position is the most important but there has to be a line where you say overpaying for mediocre talent even at the QB position is not worth it.

Based on his actual output he the contract is overplayed. Based on his perceived potential the contract is in line.

The Colts had better hope that he had better live up to his potential or this contract could kill their depth for a few years.

To be quite blunt: What depth?

Haha this is exactly what I was thinking. Beyond Luck that team just doesn't have much that should get you excited. They have some WR talent, a good Corner, and now a couple nice pieces on the OL but otherwise nothing that should scare any team in the league beyond Luck.

Agreed... Like I've said also matters where your cap situation is... Who's coming up for FA, what space you have. Spending 18 mil a year when your FA's are locked up for the next couple years, and cap space to sign him is different than having to push off re-signing key players or replacing them with bottom tier FA's to get him.

But when your playoff teams are usually QB led rosters, especially the winning ones, that makes a big point to buy the QB. Especially the consistency it tends to add.

Irsay is an idiot. He openly and repeatedly stated it would be a record deal. Bragging about it. Way to make negotiating easy.

I get that. I don't blame teams for overpaying at the QB position but to me when it is about winning Super Bowls and overpaying for a mediocre QB usually doesn't equal Super Bowl victories in this league is it really worth it to just keep staying in that spot for years upon years? I mean making the playoffs say once every three years with an expensive mediocre QB and getting bounced in the first 2 rounds of the playoffs when you do make it just doesn't make much sense to me. I would rather my team take the risk and shoot for something great.
