Lots of athleticism, hopefully Glenn and Pleasant can turn Melifonwu into a football player

Arguably my favorite draft analyst, Greg Cosell, breaking down each of the Lions draft picks

Sweet, Eagles move down from the No. 70 slot to No. 73 gaining an extra pick thinking they're dead-locked on drafting McNeil only to lose out.

I like that we took a player another team was intending to draft.

Sometimes trading down comes back to bite you

Eagles ended up drafting La Tech 3-tech Milton Williams. I don't understand the love fest for this kid. He was consistently getting washed out of plays by one player and that was from the Sun Belt Conference

One area that I see Holmes focusing on is that his selection of any Receiver type "must love to block"

I like this trait he appears to look for in a WR, TE or even a RB.

Physicality.

Grit, toughness, balance through contact and savvy running skills

An Amon-Ra St. Brown designed 37 yard run. Moves from slot inside to RB
Clip takes 8-10 seconds to load and play

He is right about McNeil. Hopefully he is more motivated in the NFL. I get an Albert Haynesworth vibe watching him play though.

I forgot we signed Kalif Raymond. So we have 2 returners now at least. I think Penisini stays and either Bryant or Hand goes and we can cut Nick Williams. I would bring in KJ Wright as an additional LB too. I would cut Priice at safety as Meli can play both S and CB. That would give us room for another RB.

I'll take the wait and see approach once we get into training camp.

Way too early to be cutting unless you're talking camp

Like the KJ Wright name tossing though

The following article is the 4th or 5th that seems to value DB Melifonwu as 2nd or 3rd best of all the picks.

I think Penisini stays

agreed but some seem to think that Glenn is leaning more to running a 1-gapping NT.

I disagree and believe Penisini will still be needed and some of the base will still require the NT to be variable - one and two gapping - to which both McNeil and Penisini will be relied upon

After the completion of the draft, The Athletic ranked the entire draft classes of all 32 teams in the NFL.

For Detroit, drafting Sewell and the tremendous value selection of wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown in the fourth round (No. 112 overall) catapulted the Lions up the rankings.

Dane Brugler ranked the Lions' draft as the third-best draft in the league.

Detroit Lions (No. 101 overall): Ifeatu Melifonwu, CB, Syracuse

Ifeatu Melifonwu—one of The Draft Network’s most versatile, exciting corner prospects—will now join 2020’s third-overall selection Jeff Okudah and Seattle castoff Quinton Dunbar as the top three corners for coordinator Aaron Glenn’s defense.

BB_72: not 1 mention of Oruwariye

Detroit Lions (No. 72 overall): Alim McNeill, DT, Detroit Lions

Alim McNeill is a mauler on the interior with power stemming from a strong lower half that reaches into his powerful hands and flexible hips. This is another culture selection for first-year general manager Brad Holmes.
