How can anyone say that was a good call? It was in the stands and once it is it's a free for all. Horrible call for MLB in such a big spot for all to see.
It looked to me from the backside view like Mookie was touched before his glove went over the wall, so I lean toward the call being right, but I would agree it's not a perfectly conclusive angle, either. The guy in the collared shirt is clearly over the fence, the older guy in the red shirt is clearly making sure he's behind the fence with his reach...so where the blue and orange shirt guys that are between them that actually contacted Betts is the question. And it looked to me like blue shirt guy definitely contacted him before his glove was over the fence.
No doubt orange shirt guy made Mookies glove close and affected his ability to catch the ball. But I thought once the player went into the stands it was a moot point as to interference? Guess I was wrong.....
The ump called it interference so the replay would have to definitively prove it was in the stands and apparently they couldn't. It's a credit to Mookie that's he's such a great athlete to even make it a question.
I agre about Mookie. But how in the world could they NOT see it was in the stands? I could two shits either way cuz I have no skin in the game, but sheeesh.
Nope you're right . They could've ripped the glove off his hand and hit him with it once it's in the stands lolNo doubt orange shirt guy made Mookies glove close and affected his ability to catch the ball. What is the baseball rule for interference once the ball is in the stands?I think some are struggling with what interference is......
I once had really nice box seats at the old Rangers ballpark and saw some clueless cow reach over the short wall to pick up a ball that the home team had been throwing all over the infield...the look Steve Beuchele gave her was priceless. All she had done up to that point was talk a mile a minute with her friends and she had no idea what was happening in the game....she jumped up and down and waved the ball for a few seconds until she realized whole park was booing her.Olney had a good point (for a change). Was the fan ejected for interfering for a ball in play? If not, then it was a HR.

Security came to toss her and she cried while begging them to let her stay....it was so obvious that she was a ditz who didn't understand that she had interfered with the game that they let her be.
The great photo that was just posted makes it clear to me that Betts' glove was tipped while the ball was in play, so no HR!!!!
