Lol. A DT is getting credit for the Lions turn-around? Man, I love Suh but this is too much. Suh better than Megatron? Yeah right. Lions are nothing without CJ and he is the most feared offensive player in the league.

Gotta agree with you here.

Anyone else getting slightly worried that this contract hasn't gotten done yet? Or are we confident news breaks any day between now and the start of FA?

He hasn't even signed an agent yet. Can't start talks until he gets one.

Right, that's the part of the reason I'm starting to wonder what's up.

Suh probably wants the biggest contract of any Defensive player in the NFL..

Suck Fuh.

That chump's sister is his close advisor and probably the biggest asshat on earth. She is filling his head with the idea that this is a business and Suh should squeeze the Lions for every dime. Good for them and terrible for the 2014 Lions.

It is already too late for him to settle now and give us cap-room. Most or all of the high impact players that could have taken our defense to the next level are gone. Thanks Suh.

5.5 sacks and 19 tackles (to go with multiple 15 yard penalties) is holding the Lions hostage. That mother fuker way over-values his worth.

He is very good and maybe great. What made Warren Sapp a revered player and hall of famer was that he did it within a great defense. Sapp, Brooks, simeon Rice, Barber, Lynch and others made that defense great and Sapp just happened to be the best of the great bunch. Suh doesn't seem to understand that.

Cut him, save a ton, and replace him with a 2nd round rookie DT who will do just as well. Fairley is the better player anyways, imho.

Yeah it doesn't really make much sense to me either. I didn't realize all we had to do was replace him with a 2nd round DT and everything would be ok. good to know.

Oops. I was pretty wasted last night and that was some pretty good rambling. :)

Still... He is asking for way too much if the reports are accurate.

A 2nd round DT would perform at a high percentage of Suh's capability. That and with the millions saved the Lions could have two good free agents to more than account for Suh. Not saying there wouldn't be a slight drop off at the DT spot, but Suh has proven not to be the transcendent player he thinks he is.

Give Suh a Geno Atkins sized deal or let him walk.

These are my thoughts on Suh. I don't want to see him play on another team, but I don't want a DT with the highest paid defensive contract in the NFL, either.

Would absolutely SUCK to lose him, but it'd be worse if we handcuff the team with an absurd contract by overpaying someone in the DT position.

Only problem I see with trying to pay him Atkins money is, he is more accompished than Atkins. Sometimes fans like to base their decisions on one year. But Suh's agent will rightfully argue his entire career vs. Atkins.

Geno -

Suh -

If Suh signs for Atkins $$$, he'll be giving the Lions a VERY generous deal. He deserves more based on his accolades alone.

While I do agree, how much more? Can't speak for Mike, but I don't feel he deserves highest paid defensive player $$$. Is 1 mill, 2 mill per year good or does he deserve 4 or 5 mill more for highest paid??

I was one of first guys to say build around him just like CJ or Matty. I want him a Lion for life!! Just not sure for that kind of money.

Going by stats since 2010. damn near dead even if not more towards Geno. Accolades go to Suh.

Take a look at the numbers between the two guys. Atkins has outproduced Suh on the field. The reason why the acccolades aren't the same is -- Atkins was a 4th round pick and had to share snaps his rookie year. He was a full time starter the next two years and was All-Pro both years. 2013 when he signed his extension -- he tore his ACL, I believe, not 100% sure, but thought that is what I read. Even though he only played 9 games, while Suh played 16, he had more sacks than Suh in 2013.

I absolutely LOVE Suh on the Lions. Sometimes you have to make difficult decisions though and paying a DT 16+ million a year is absurd. If he was a shutdown CB, I'd say absolutely. If he was a DE getting you 15-20+ sacks a year -- I'd say absolutely. A DT though -- no chance.

To put it in perspective -- Suh ranked in the 200's for total tackles with 49 and in the 60's for sacks with 5.5. I realize he gets doubled at times, but that just equate to the richest contract for a defensive player.

The only two guys I can really think of who would warrant a contract extension that size is Richard Sherman and JJ Watt, right now.

No go look at total snaps since 2010 between the two players, as Atkins split time in 2010 and missed 7 games in 2013. That is why I say Atkins has been the most productive DT in the NFL.

I think Suh will get more $ than Atkins did, but not by a lot. If Suh's cap number each year is less than 13 mil i'll be pretty happy. I think he is worth it. He is an elite talent and going forward the cap space will keep going up. I also think it would be best to get him on a 3-4 year deal rather than 5-6. 3 years 35 mil 20 mil guaranteed would be what I think would be good. I think he'll be pushing for a 5 year deal, in which case I'd like to see about 5 year 60 mil 25 mil guaranteed would ok too.

He completely changes the way offenses play against detroit. The lions rushing defense is much, much improved. His double and triple teams allow for players like levy and ansah to dominate. He is the MVP of detroits defense.

Very true for run defense. He sure as fuck is not helping pass defense. At 15-16 million a year, you will never see a CB worth a shit unless built through the draft. Does Slay or ??? from this year payoff?
