This is a team sport man. How can you compare the team when CJ entered to the team Suh came into? Those are two very different teams.

Kinda my point. One team was competitive, one wasn't.

.....or Nebraska to a conference championship?

They lost to Texas in the Big 12 title game the year he was drafted for God's sake.

edit: oh you mean why didn't they win. Came within 1 second thanks to Suh and they've sucked since.

Keep avoiding facts WR lovers. Teams didn't start competing every week until Suh was drafted. Without Suh, Calvin is just a garbage stat collector.

I for one do love WR's. I love the capability to score often and quick. Don't mistake that for the opinion that WR's are more important than defense. Having never played the game above high school level, I just don't understand defensive schemes as easily as offensive schemes.
Calling CJ a "garbage stat collector" just doesn't make sense to me. The guy is recognized as the premier WR by every football analyst that I have listened to and it isn't close. His work ethic is second only to his natural talent. Suh, on the other hand, has done questionable things both on the field and off. Not saying he is a bad guy or I don't want him on my team but there have been many instances where his inability to control himself has cost his football team. That isn't a leader in my book.

I dont want to make it sound as if Im bashing Suh because im not.

Calvin is mostly the reason why the Lions offense has been tops in the league for years. Can you say the same about Suh's defense?

Well, that's what this board and the majority of Lions fans try to tell me when it gets brought up. Stafford's 5000 and CJ's record is "just a bunch of garbage yards in games where they played from behind."

Do MI fans change their stance to support their ever-changing opinions on that board? For example, now I hear Geno Adkins had "better stats" than Suh, but when I bring up the fact that the kid rookie WR in SD was the best WR in the draft last year (3rd rounder), his stats all of sudden don't mean anything because a player is judged by his career and not one season (when your player is not the guy I'm talking about, and has shittier stats this season).

This is why I try to have fun and not take shit too seriously around here.

I really don't care who thinks who is better. The team didn't start competing until Suh came along and that is what I care most about.

Yes, I think Suh makes the whole D better. No, I don't think Calvin makes the whole O better, I think he is a one man offense and that's partially why we can't win. It would be nice to see him motivate those around him like Suh appears to do.

Well, CJ came before Stafford and worked with Jon Kitna and Dan Orlovsky throwing him the ball. Then comes Stafford healthy, CJ gets a real QB and the team is better in pretty much every other area as well. Then comes Suh. He's another key piece of the puzzle but lets not pretend we are comparing apples to apples when saying it was Suh who was the reason the team stepped it up. The team he joined was already immensely more talented than that 0-16 squad even though they still sucked at the time.

Suh 100% absolutely changed the culture of this team his rookie year and it's unfortunate some fans take this for granted.

How many WR yards equal Sacks?, How many receiving TDs equal Passes defened?....I just don't see the point in debating two totally different positions and trying to win the debate......Who's better Verlander or Cabrera?

It comes down to money and if we can keep both great, if not which one is the least crippling.

Team comes first not man crushes on a favorite player.

I think you will only see an explosion if the price is ridiculous.

Let's not pretend there are people here that want Suh gone because of the talent, you know that's not the case. Money is the issue here not the ability or talent of Suh.

I think the discussion will be centered around how the deal is structured rather than the overall $$$$$'s. I think epic might be a tad dramatic.

Couldn't agree more. Swarm is blowing the thoughts out of proportion about Suh. Totally about money and not the talent.

However SHOCK-N-AWE is the way Swarms operates. TMZ style!!!

There's nothing shocking or to be in awe about over Suh re-signing for top dollar. Common sense.

Did you honestly just say you don't think Calvin makes the whole offense better? You can't possibly mean that. Go watch the time he missed this year and see how inept our offense was.

As far as Suh motivated those around him to be better -- maybe he should talk to our secondary more, as the motivation isn't working.

Did the Lions improve when Suh was drafted -- ABSOLUTELY. Is he the best player on the defense -- ABSOLUTELY. If you want to talk about who took the team to the next level -- Stafford has much more to do with that than Suh. Detroit was 0-16 when they drafted him. In his 2nd full year as the starter, the team went 10-6 and he threw for 5000 yards and 41 touchdowns. The reason why Detroit didn't advance -- GB and NO put up like 1100 yards passing and zero punts in the last two weeks of the season. LOL.

Detroit has lived and died with their offense. Detroit isn't winning games 10-7 or 14-6. Detroit is outscoring teams when they win. Detroit's defense has ranked 21st, 23rd, 13th and 16th in the years Suh has been on the team -- basically average to below average as a team.

1000% agree. If money wasn't an issue -- OF COURSE everyone would want Suh back. He is one of my favorite players, but he isn't worth 25-50% more than the next highest paid player at his position.
