The only miniscule leverage he had was that he had a deal outside of the Niners that was better than here presumably (with more guaranteed money). Now, he's saying go for the big prize and I'll be here when you come back. Hmm... I think that was always the case, but his agent needs to be giving him better advice on how to bluff or keep what he says to the Dolphins a secret. Apparently, Condon knows how to keep secrets. And what about Miami, EVERYBODY passed them down and now Smith, SMITH, is telling them that he will pass them down if Manning doesn't sign in SF, hardly a situation for a bidding war (not that the Niners would participate or that Smith deserves it from Miami - but still his agent needs to advise him on that). My opinion is that the Dolphins are f-cked either way and it would be tempting to pull the offer when Manning signed with the Niners. I guess honesty is the best policy and the Dolphins are desperate. And common sense would say this was the case, perhaps he COULDN'T fool anybody if he tried.

If this is true, the wait for Manning's decision is less risky for us. Despite how some feel about Smith, he wants to help this team and I respect him for that after the offseason attempts to replace him and disappointing previous years.
