So KC's D last year was -24 in takeways and this year it's +12. The offense doesn't help the D with turnovers. KC has 31 sacks so far. They only had 27 all of last year.

I don't see the similarities in regards to the defense because even when the Niners sucked the defense wasn't bad. They improved when Harbough came but they also added Aldon/Whitner/Rogers and inserted Bowman and Brooks into the starting lineup. That's alot of added talent. The Chiefs didn't add anyone.

You underestimate how bad Stanford Routt is compared to Sean Smith. Berry was horrid for the first 8 games last year as well, then he was solid the next eight and it carried over to this year. Arenas was an AWFUL nickel corner.

Poe is being disruptive at NT in the 1 gap system whereas he was simply eating blocks and not really attacking in the 2 gap 3-4 last year run by Crennel. Poe's disruptive prowess from the Nose gives the Chiefs pressure from the inside, and forces a double team to be set on Poe. This makes it immensely more difficult to prevent QB pressures, disruptions, and sacks. That's before you even think about how to approach blocking Hali or Houston.

To compare the 2013 Chiefs defense to last years defense is Apples and Oranges imo. Based on the numbers so far though, one could probably argue that the 1 gap 3-4 Sutton runs is a much better fit than the 2 gap ran last year based on personnel. Sutton is no guru, his scheme just fits better.
