DUI is a big deal and even though he wasn't driving let's be real he was at some point and was drunk. Because it's a serious issue it would be nice for it to be taken serious and a message sent not only to his team but all atheletes out there that it's not ok. A suspension for a half would do that and it would be a better PR move then giving the appearance you will do whatever it takes to have your stars on the field when Bama plays FSU.

Let's be real what is happening here is they want the kid on the field.

I'm all in favor of stricter DUI laws for everyone if that's needed. If it's not enough punishment for football players, why is it enough for others?

If someone is privileged enough to represent a university, their standards of conduct should be higher. That being said, a student at large would have not been inpatient at a treatment facility, doing ride-a-longs and community service and "other things". I am not arguing for suspension but pointing out that he has already gotten more than the average student at or citizen of Alabama.

A DUI can affect many peoples lives in different ways. If you drive for a living you probably lose your job if you're a Doctor or a Nurse you might be in trouble with licencing board. If you're a teacher you could face problems .If you are on some sort of scholarship you could be in jeopardy of losing it. You might lose your insurance coverage because they want to either cancel you or raise your rates so high you can't afford it. Many jobs you get suspended if you get one and lots of jobs if you get one while training (firefighter, cop, EMT) you most likely get dropped. So no it's not just football players and many face consequences beyond what the law gives you (unless you play for Saban)

So does this mean everyone else who gets a DUI and doesn't play football adds to their err of invincibility?

You know, since it's a crime and has legal punishments.

Are you serious? I can't tell if you are joking or you are just a fool. I will give you a hint -- one is being provided a 6 figure scholarship to represent the school on and off the field. The other is not.

Every single student would GLADLY take a ride a long, a weekend at a treatment facility and 'community service' in return for a free education and the fact they won't be paying student loans for the next 15-20 years.

There are plenty of people in the real world that get further punishment than just legal. If I get a DUI my company will fire me. Can't drive a company vehicle under their insurance with a dui so they aren't gonna keep me around. Plenty of jobs like this.

That being said, if the kid just passed out in his car I'm fine with this punishment. I almost got caught up in this same situation outside of a bar when I was younger. Luckily I was cognitive enough to put the keys in the trunk. Funny part was I didn't remember doing it when the officer woke me up. It took us a good 15 minutes to find them

Back in the day before Uber -- I'd agree. If his intention was to not drive home -- all it would have taken is 1 minute to get an Uber home.

Keys in the ignition and passed out in the front seat says he had every intention of driving but just didn't make it. If your plan is to sleep in a car -- you aren't going to sleep upright in the driver seat. Lay down in the back seat or across the front seats depending on the make and model.

Saban is making Urban Meyer at Florida look like a strict disciplinarian.

You want an Alabama defensive lineman to lay across the seats? Lol. It better be a fucking H1 hummer. Front seat with the seat leaned back is the most comfy you are gonna get in a vehicle when you are over 6'. Keys in the ignition was probably bc he didn't feel like dying of heat stroke in his sleep. If they can prove he drove then i don't agree with the punishment. If he got in his car and passed out then he endangered NO ONE. On your uber comment the dude could have been out of cash. I know I always was getting out of a bar at 21.

Let's be clear:

According to the Tuscaloosa News the car was cranked and the lights were on. If you are passed out drunk in a car that is running it is a huge issue.

This isn't I got too drunk and decided to sleep it off. The car was on campus and he either was headed out or just got back in. Either way he earned that DUI.

This was the part I wasn't sure of (didn't know where the vehicle was when he was found). If he wasn't in a bar parking lot, chances are he already drove somewhere.

If Saban was the math professor, more addition and subtraction problems.

Academic scholarships can have "character stipulations" in them. Depends on the university and/or organization giving the scholarship. However, if my academic scholarship was up for renewal and the university knew I got a dui, I'd be a little worried

Uber doesn't accept cash. It is all done electronically. It is why I said I would have understood if it were before Uber.

With where you to lay down in a car -- it'd depend on what he is driving. If it is a little coupe -- the front seat would be the best and only option. Anything midsize and up -- across the seats gives you way more room.

That being said -- if he were laying all the way back in the driver seat -- I find it extremely difficult to see the police giving him a DUI. Also find it difficult for them to say he was passed out, instead of sleeping with the car on.

I agree they can, but do they at Bama? Thats what I am curious about. Would any other scholarship student get the same treatment or is this special or more harsh?

If I would get a DUI I would lose my current position. Sad but true. Happened to another rep. They said insurance wasn't going to insure after a DUI of said person.

If you are good enough to go pro in math, they will over look anything.

Just putting myself in that position when I was 21. By cash I mean any sort of payment method. I was always broke lol. Point is moot tho since I found out the kid was found in a campus parking lot. He had been driving for sure
