Alabama is the 14th most valuable basketball program in the country.

Alabama Crimson Tide - In Photos: College Basketball's Most Valuable Teams 2015 - Forbes

That is 3rd best in the SEC. Kentucky is #4, and Tennessee is #11 ahead of us.

5 SEC teams in the top20, Arkansas at #18 and Missouri at #20. You'd think Florida would be in there, but it's not.
There is some screwed up criteria in that equation Louisville is not more valuable than Kentucky and I would argue Kansas is not either. Very suspect that Florida is not rated about Alabama as well.

He would have taken the Texas job, but for some reason Texas decided to go a different direction. Either way, he was in the driver seat. He could leave to Bama for big money and Bama was unsure what Texas was doing. WSU was unsure on both fronts and wanted to do everything to keep him. Either way, he was getting paid. Good for him. Texas decision is a little confounding, but we will see.

It came down to his personality. Morale and fandom is at a real low, and I guess Patterson wanted someone who could also be a great PR man on top of being a good coach.
HD reported Monday that Texas athletic director Steve Patterson didn't have Marshall among his top candidates because he didn't think Marshall would be a good fit at UT "personality wise."

Sources close to the situation said the knock on Marshall is that his personality might be a little too brash and hard to manage in Austin. Those sources said Patterson wants a coach who will provide an exciting, winning brand of basketball combined with a personality that will engage fans.

Avery Johnson is terrible and he's going to fail at Alabama. His last few NBA campaigns were a disaster. Has been outta coaching for three years and never coached college. Can he even recruit?. BAMA Arrogance. Plenty of top quality proven college coaches would have liked the chance to interview. BAMA has to have a "name". Three years from now, they'll be going through the same exercise.

Yes. He can recruit. He'll just goes into a recruits house, they'll all recognize him from ESPN and he just needs to say "want to play in the NBA? I can help you get there". And, hiring a well known coach shows the recruits that Alabama is serious about basketball, which should also help him recruit.

Love the Hire, I think Coach Johnsons energetic personality will help bring in some top recruits.

The State of Alabama is about to get good at Basketball too. Pearl,Haase, and Johnson are all excellent coaches.

I can only guess it's due to money rather than success.

He wasn't that bad as a head coach. He was the fastest coach to win 100 games in NBA history well until that got broken by Tom Thibodeau. In '06-07 season the Mavs had the best record in the NBA with 67 games. He led Dallas into the finals in '06 their first.
