Coaching in the major leagues though is different from being a player - I really hadn't thought about banning them from coaching, but I suppose that since McGwire now opposes steroids and claims to regret it, hopefully he can make a difference in helping the younger players to make the correct choices, but all of them should be permanently banned from the Hall of Fame - no two ways about that

Does anyone really think that A-Rod will have anything left in 2015? To me, he already has been banned for life. His baseball life was pretty much over, or at least to my eyes it was. And, to sit out that long, and collect all that much more rust,........

Yep. He's done.

ARod has been a shell of his former self for years. He hasn't come close to earning the amount of money they have been paying him.

The reason ARod is fighting the suspension isn't so he can get back on the field -- it is in hopes that they drop it to the same suspension everyone else had, thereby, saving him 20 million or so in salary.

He also isn't going to retire -- the yankees owe him like 100 million on his contract. He will come to the park in a wheelchair and just collect checks, whether the Yankees like it or not.

What I don't get is the players association is defending this guy. They wanted only 100 game suspension for A-Rod. This league will forever be corrupted and broke if the players association is defending cheaters.

MLB needs a new commish and they need to do a complete cleansing of the entire league.

I would comment on this, but i'm still laughing at TrueLakerFan's McGwire rationalization...

Not rationalizing- just pointing out that coaching is not the same assuming of course you buy his apologies about doing steroids.

MLB is the one who drew up and agreed upon the drug offenders punishments. In reality, ARod should be treated no different than any of the other guys who were suspended, as he has never tested postive, so in all actuality, it is only a 1st offense, which is 50 games.

Most likely not - but they said today he will still have 40 million dollars in a guaranteed contract. If nothing else he will come back to collect - He doesn't care about winning at his age - Without those juices he is a nobody and we all know that

Am I the only one not worrying about the money the Yankees have wasted on A-Rod?

Nope. I couldn't care less about the money. I'm not paying it. None of us are, unless there is a Steinbrenner on these boards.

Since the fans and the public do not know what evidence MLB has, nor do we know all the violations they could add it's hard to say.

I doubt MLB ask for a year and a half, more than the collective Bargaining agreement without having additional information.

I do not want to see A Rod banned for life as it allows the Yankees to void that travesty of a contract and allow them to create havoc in the FA market! With that much money off the books they take hard runs at Matt Weiters and Max Scherzer.

LOL - I am not the least worried about the money the Yankees are spending - It's not my money - some one asked about if he had anything left in the tank when he comes back in 2015 - I was just pointing out that He still is guaranteed 40 million and most likely does not care about anything else

So Mariano is outraged that poor widdle Arod is getting boo'ed? "It's hard to take" says Mariano.

But he has no problem with the years of lying, cheating and recruiting for Biogenesis? :bullshit:

I cant stand arod but the whole 200+ game ban is a complete joke imo. he should be getting, at worst, 65 like braun. This is Selig pounding his chest again pretending like he trying to protect the game. If this was the catcher from the yanks (cervilli) that did the same thing as arod, he would just be getting the 50 game ban. hell melky made a frickin fake website to try to make himself look innocent. No one likes arod so lets make him the scapegoat for the league. embarrassing.

Yes - but that wasn't my idea - :L

I know, you are not the GM. But your outrage should be consistent. Claiming that a hitting coach is no longer playing therefore should not matter whether he took steroids or not or because he apologized and repented it ameliorated years of denial, obfuscation and refusal to testify truthfully before a Congressional hearing.

Bud Selig is the most hypocritical commissioner to ever come along. Some of us were old enough to see Selig vigorously defend McGwire in 1998 when an Associated Press reporter found "Andro" pills, Androstenedione, a testosterone precursor in McGwire's locker room.

"Selig and the head of the players union, Donald Fehr, issued a joint statement that attempted to dampen interest in the drug issue that might distract attention from McGwire’s home run quest: "In recent days there have been press reports concerning the use of certain nutritional supplements by major league players. The substances in question are available over the counter and are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. In view of these facts, it seems inappropriate that such reports should overshadow the accomplishments of players such as Mark McGwire."

Now he is acting as if he is for the integrity of the game with his feigned outrage. What a hypocrite.

Everyone associated with baseball in '98 got on their hands and knees and thanked God for McGwire and Sosa, with Selig leading the way. How soon they forget.

I still think A-Rod's a scumbag, but it isn't so much for the PEDs as it is for him. If you twisted my arm, I might grudgingly admit that there seems to be a certain bias directed toward him.

Of course, there still may be things we don't know about...
