pathetic defense at the corners, especially Bobby. Valdez sucks but I can't even get mad at him for that inning.

What the hell is going on with the Blue Jays?

Only 2 games ahead of the streaking Orioles now

Only three good starters right now (one of whom wasn't even in the original rotation), Ryu/Kikuchi have been hurt/mediocre and Berrios has been a huge disappointment. The bullpen is also pretty shaky.

Not only has Chapman failed to get back to 2018/19 form but even his defensive metrics aren't all that impressive. Other than that though, their lineup has been quite good. Vlad's had a disappointing 2022 campaign but he still has a 132 OPS+ and his Statcast metrics suggest plenty of room for improvement. Bichette has also been very meh after a 5+ WAR season. At least Kirk's having his breakout year, and they did just call up Gabriel Moreno (.276/.300/.293, 66 wRC+; not good, but he is avoiding strikeouts and making plenty of contact which is a good sign)

Sure why not??

Baltimore is doing it with smoke and mirrors and the most insanely low payroll in baseball.
This team was supposed to be about 50-112, not a team possibly fighting for a wildcard berth somehow.

Will they suddenly change long term course and become a "buyer" instead of a "seller'?
They already have the top rated minor leagues, plus the incoming #1 overall pick, lots of young guys, and a ton of payroll flexibility.

As painful as it might be for the fans, I still think they have to stand pat or stick to being a seller regardless.
I hope I am wrong and it becomes obvious to add players, but I am in favor of rebuilding for another year.

I think I read not too long ago that Elias was going to stick to the plan for this year. No need to be like 2017 (I think that was the year) where we had a good month or so but our pitching was clearly not going to hold up but we were buyers anyways and tanked the last six weeks of the season.

I went to bed with the Yankees up 3-0 and just needing them to hold on to hit my parlay. WTF.

With Taillon and Cortes turning back into pumpkins and Boone's A+ bullpen management it's a good thing they've built a double digit lead is all I'm saying.

Orioles have a higher chance of clinching a Wild Card than the Yankees.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Blue Jays have fired manager Charlie Montoyo.

It has been a pretty dreadful first half in Toronto relative to the lofty preseason expectations, but this news still comes as a shock. Montoyo departs with an overall managerial record of 236-236 (.500) across three-plus seasons at the helm for the Blue Jays, including a 91-71 record in 2021 and a 46-42 mark here in 2022. As it stands right now in mid-July, the club is 15 1/2 games back of the first-place Yankees in the American League East but a half-game up on the Mariners for the third American League Wild Card spot. John Schneider, who had been serving as the Jays' bench coach, will fill the role of interim manager through the end of the year.
