They tried to get him when he posted, and he wanted no part of the east coast.

Not sure what's changed?

Maybe he wants to play for a potential wild card team?

I think peak Pedro was more dominant than peak Randy Johnson as far as rate stats go, but not enough to offset his advantage in innings. Randy was more of a workhorse, his peak was a little longer, and he pitched longer. In fact, Randy had around 1300 more innings... it's not just because he pitched 4 more years.

I think Maddux was the "least dominant" of the three, but he also pitched significantly more innings than the other two. He doesn't have the sexy strikeout rates that the other two had, but he was also the stingiest with walks and home runs. I do think Maddux benefitted a little more from his defenses than the other two (at least going by RA9def). Career wise, I'd go Johnson/Maddux/Pedro. Peak wise, I'd go Johnson/Pedro/Maddux.

Where does Roger Clemens fit in?

career wise, easily #1

maybe not #1 in peak, his best seasons are kinda scattered... he was great for pretty much his entire career. ten 7+ WAR seasons, two 10+ (including 11.9 in 1997), fourteen 5+ WAR seasons, and 16 seasons with 4+ WAR

The real question is which of the Yankees overrated prospects will be the deal breaker? Who is the next Jesus Montero in the Yankee system?

Maybe the Yankees could pick up Craig Hansen and include him in a package of complete garbage…..

I was sick when they traded him. Sick.

The fuck do I know.

LOL
That was the general consensus on these boards at the time(was that still on CBS Sports in those days?). I remember Yankees fans were in mourning.

Still got the better end of the deal. Lol. It was such a high-profile trade at the time, too. At least you got some decent production from Pineda.

31-31 with a 4.16 era…..only allowed 73 homers in 3 seasons……

League average-type production. #4 starter stuff, maybe? We’ve seen worse. Someone had to pitch those innings. Would you have preferred to see more of Luis Cessa or Chase Whitley in those days?

I told Blade we just gave them their next Edgar Martinez.

Whoops!
