Any injuries to this kid, Bellinger

Why has his HR production down in his prime?
Strange career arc for him. From ages 21-23, he was among the best players in the game and won an MVP. From ages 24-26, he was mostly useless to the point where the Dodgers didn’t even offer him a contract for his age-27 season(he responded with a really good year…and then an uninspiring year after that).

He’s still only 29, but he has had a lot of injuries along the way. He’s a definite durability concern, but it’s a pretty low-risk for the Yankees and his lefty bat should play well in NY. What’s the next piece going to be? Alonso? Bregman? Walker?

Best case scenario is he has a good year and opts out

He was pretty underwhelming last year however, but he's a legacy. Let's see how it works out.

the good thing about him is that he seems to either have it or not have it all season... so if he starts off hot, he will be a steal... if he doesnt the yankees just dont play him... its not like they gave anything for him, or paying him that much..

kind of reminds me of the Carpenter signing a few years back.... that one paid off....

He had a major shoulder injury a few years back. Not insane to assume that's had long lasting effects on him as a hitter.

Excited to see ZiPS really likes Kristian Campbell and Roman Anthony. Pitching projections are also pretty encouraging.

Yankees got a nice deal considering they gave up nothing and got $5M cut off his contract this year essentially. For their sake, I wouldn't put high expectations into Bellinger. Not even close to the same guy but if he can't be at least "very good" then he probably has no hope. Short porch and he will have Judge and Stanton. This isn't close to a Soto replacement but if they can sign a Bregman or someone else...that could definitely help losing Soto and still pay less overall then what Soto is making per year. I just don't think Bellinger is that great...but he is really in a perfect situation to succeed.

Yeah if you get something in the neighborhood of a 110 OPS+ from him, he's a pretty good player. There's just not much about his Statcast profile in his last few years to suggest he'll be a whole lot better than that.

He's had a weird career.

I'm somewhere in between.... Last year was wild to see all the progress and next year should be similar with the new kids...

I'd love to have a couple proven players, but I don't want to block these kids...

I'd love to see Teoscar Hernandez replace Yoshida and let Grissom/Campbell platoon at 2nd and keep Hamilton/Rafaella as util...

Another insurance starter not named Burnes would be great...

Not paying him that much? It appears he is making like 54M over the next 2 seasons and the Cubs are picking up 5M. It would surprise me if Walker or Alfonso get 25M a year.

If you mean- its not over 8 years like Fried- fair enough. He is the Yanks 4th highest paid player this year though.

It is just wild- Marcus Stroman is making over 18M this year. That shit would, if not cripple the Guards, seriously constrain them. Cheap-ass Guards are worried about Naylor making like 14M.

nothing would surprise me on Bellinger--- his possible outcomes are all over the place-- from down ballot MVP guy, to replacement level.

Yankees would probably eat a good portion of that to get him gone

I’m disappointed in cashman. You didn’t want Walker for that steal of a contract? Wow
