Crochet's White Sox number was 45. His college number was 34. His high school number was 14.

He decided on 35 for Boston....

Didn’t want to give up Gil for a possible rental I’m guessing
They definitely couldn’t trade Gil after trading Cortes, but Tucker is a monster. I just expected Cashman to make it happen on Tucker even if he had to part with better prospects.

Tucker was probably the closest thing you could get to replacing Soto (maybe not at the plate, but in terms of WAR at least). That's not to say I wouldn't have made the Cortes trade, but I feel like the Tucker trade is one I'd try to pull off first.

Agree with every word of this. Maybe the plan is for the Yankees to wait a year and sign Tucker as a FA next offseason.

I think Trout would have gotten a bigger contract than Soto did if he hits free agency at that age. Keep in mind Trout never hit free agency. His $426M deal in 2019 was huge at the time, and that was an extension.

Not being as good as Trout through age 26 isn't exactly an insult though.. Trout's first decade was among the greatest starts to an MLB career. In fact, the only player with more WAR from age 18-26 was Cobb. It's too bad for the injuries the last 5-6 years because he looked well on his way to cracking the top 20, if not the top 10 all-time in WAR. As for Soto, he ranks 32nd, which is still an outstanding start to his career. It's not hard to see him hitting the 60 WAR mark by age 30. So unless he falls off a cliff, the HOF seems very likely and I think there's a decent shot he gets to 80+ WAR.
just out of curiosity- what site are you looking at for WAR? fangraphs?

maybe-- it will be interesting

they have a lot of money tied up in Cole, Rodon and Fried- and Devin Williams will be a FA after this year. Judge and Stanton are still on the books.

It is the Yankees so you cannot rule it out- but putting up 400+ million would be a lot. Having said that- Stanton is only on the books a couple more seasons, and Judge and Cole are not exactly young. Beside MAYBE Volpe- they really do not have a guy right now to carry them into the next era.

I guess I was a little surprised when I saw Judge will be 33 on opening day. Thats def. not old- but he is definitely a lot closer to the end than the beginning at this point. For the Yankees sake- they better hope he ages more like Bonds than Trout.

yes. You can sort stats through certain ages in their leaderboards.

Honestly, I wouldn't blame the Jays for not going higher than that for Vlad. He's coming off a great season, but he's only had one other season (2021) remotely close to this. This is using BB-Ref's WAR, which is more generous than FanGraphs (which has him at 17.0 WAR versus BB-Ref's 21.5)

2019: .272/.339/.433, 106 OPS+, 2.1 WAR
2020: .262/.329/.462, 115 OPS+, 0.6 WAR (60 games)
2021: .311/.401/.601, 167 OPS+, 6.7 WAR
2022: .274/.339/.480, 133 OPS+, 4.0 WAR
2023: .264/.345/.444, 116 OPS+, 2.0 WAR
2024: .323/.396/.544, 166 OPS+, 6.2 WAR

I'd be different if you switched those years around and his 2021/22 seasons fell a year or two later than they did.

I mean Harper was around the same age when he got his big contract and if you look at his stats, without diving deep, they are somewhat comparable. Harper most certainly had better stats but other than OBP, somewhat comparable. Vladdy has been top 6 in MVP twice. He came in 2nd. Harper won a MVP and his WAR was ridiculous but other than that not crazy. Vladdy won a GG as well. I am not saying Vladdy is as good as Harper but 6 years later and pretty damn good stats, almost MVP, etc....he can get more.

Harper got 13 for $330M in 2019. I would think Vladdy can get over $400M so I don't fault him for declining. I don't fault the Blue Jays for offering him that as well but in this market he can get more IMO.

In 2023 he played a lot of games but battled injuries all year.

O’s sign some Japanese pitcher who supposedly has exceptional accuracy. Not Burnes.

Cody to the bronx

Good pickup. Give up a 30-year-old reliever with under 100 career innings for an above average outfielder. Bellenger can play CF and helps keep Judge in right field, plus he can play 1st.

Best case scenario is he has a good year and opts out

He was pretty underwhelming last year however, but he's a legacy. Let's see how it works out.
