If the Astros really would trade Tucker to the Yankees, I’m surprised that the Yankees wouldn’t be trying harder to make it happen. This is from NJ.com:

“According to the person, who asked to remain anonymous because of the sensitivity of the talks, the Astros are demanding a big return loaded with quality MLB-ready pieces, but the Yankees have offered prospects, none ranked among their top 30 in MLB Pipeline’s top 30.

The Astros want the Yankees to start a package with right-hander Luis Gil, the 2024 AL Rookie of the Year.

“I talked to someone with the Astros’ front office and was told the Yankees didn’t offer anything the Astros wanted,” the person said. “Nothing. They think the Yankees have offered crap.”

As of Wednesday, the Cubs had the best offer on the table. They’re willing to give up two regulars with team control for four more seasons, right fielder Seiya Suzuki and third baseman Isaac Paredes.

Speculative divide in Boston's front office:

This quote caught my eye:
"there are people in the Red Sox organization who believe Bregman is likely to stay with the Astros, while some prominent Astros folks think he’ll end up with the Red Sox."

Reminder: Bregman turned down $26m per year (6 @ $156)
Red Sox president of baseball operations Craig Breslow appeared on WEEI and said that “Rafael Devers is our third baseman and we are really excited about that.”
There has been rampant speculation this off-season that the Red Sox are looking to add a third baseman and move Devers to first base; however, Red Sox manager Alex Cora said those conversations never happened with Devers. Now Breslow is stating firmly that Devers will indeed be the starting third baseman in 2025. Perhaps he will move at some point in his career but that doesn’t figure to be happening next year.

This is awesome. And good for Bellinger for telling it exactly like it is:

And I can see why the Astros wouldn’t want Bellinger as a result, as well.

I think Trout would have gotten a bigger contract than Soto did if he hits free agency at that age. Keep in mind Trout never hit free agency. His $426M deal in 2019 was huge at the time, and that was an extension.

Not being as good as Trout through age 26 isn't exactly an insult though.. Trout's first decade was among the greatest starts to an MLB career. In fact, the only player with more WAR from age 18-26 was Cobb. It's too bad for the injuries the last 5-6 years because he looked well on his way to cracking the top 20, if not the top 10 all-time in WAR. As for Soto, he ranks 32nd, which is still an outstanding start to his career. It's not hard to see him hitting the 60 WAR mark by age 30. So unless he falls off a cliff, the HOF seems very likely and I think there's a decent shot he gets to 80+ WAR.

$340M jump is a crazy jump in 5 years. Wow

That doesn't make sense. Contracts have gone up a shit ton in the last 5 years. Babe Ruth only made $80K in his best year. Doesn't mean Soto is better than he was either...

Also, the Angels weren't in a bidding war. I think if Trout gets a much bigger contract then if he had hit free agency

I’m surprised that Cashman didn’t try harder to beat the Cubs’ package on Tucker. Bellinger isn’t quite the same level of impact.

Didn’t want to give up Gil for a possible rental I’m guessing
