I don't mind trading prospects. It is weird they gave up Teel. They were high on him replacing Wong in 26...

Crochet is now Boston's youngest starter....

Sign Burnes and this could be a really good rotation. I think Houck's 2024 was pretty legit and Bello's 2nd half gives me some optimism for a better 2025

Not sure they will sign Burnes.. I wouldn't be shocked if with this signing and Chapman signing they call it quits and wait for the draft

They have to extend him. This just feels like they're panicking

If they don’t extend him this is the Herschel walker trade

Yup. 2 years is basically a pseudo-rental

At least they still have Anthony/Mayer/Campbell. I'm always skeptical about pitching prospects, but SP is somewhat of a weakness on the farm

I think you have to go for another SP just because I'm very iffy on how many innings they get from Giolito, let alone the quality of said innings.

After the Fried contract, I think Burnes is now too expensive... I think he'll go to Toronto....

If Sox add another pitcher, it might be Sasaki. But, they now have Crochet, Giolito, Houck, Bello, Crawford, Whitlock, Fitts, & Cooper - who can all start...

I have a feeling they'll throw money at Teoscar Hernadez and save the bank for Vlad Jr. next winter...

I'd scrap Whitlock as a starter. He can't stay healthy.

I do feel good about that 1-4. I guess to be fair not many teams have an established #5.

Ah fudge have to extend him.... Terrible move then!

I don't think they are panicking... They've been in on Crochet all winter.

The kid is only 25 and two years from FA. They have time to see if he works out before they extend him...

Yeah that is true... IF they do not sign him this could be a terrible trade.. Let's hope he remains healthy and this all works out

Don't mean to sound like a doomer. I did want Crochet. I was just surprised at what they gave up.

yea... surprised the red sox got him... its an overpay for a team like the red sox who still need to do a lot to compete... many think they overperformed last season just to be 500... if they are that good already, this is a better move...

The Boston media is going crazy because they didn't sign Soto or Fried....

Here's a nice trade "rumor"... Boston gets Tucker & Valdez for three mid prospects!

Who wrote this article? The prospect haul coming the Sox is laughably light. It doesn’t include any of their top 5 prospects at all. You aren’t getting Tucker for that, let alone with Valdez.

@steveringo @chappee11 thoughts on losing Teel?
Feels like an overpay and a panic move as the Sox were looking at another failed offseason. I like Crochet, but he’s not an ace. They do need him in the rotation, though. I think Teel will be a good one, but I understand why he had to be in this deal. Now they need to extend him(which I think they will).

Teel and Montgomery are #4 and #5 on Sox Prospects and MLB Pipeline.

I can get behind trading Montgomery. He's less established and the Sox have plenty of outfield prospects, two of whom are knocking on the door of the major leagues. Teel is the one I'm more iffy on trading.

Different story. Some idiot said Boston would give Franklin Arias, Miguel Bleis and Brooks Brannon to Houston - for Framber Valdez and Kyle Tucker!

Bleis just seems like one of those toolsy international guys who never amount to much, not that he's been healthy.

You are replying to the wrong trade. The proposal posted by @steveringo had the Sox getting Tucker & Valdez from HOU for Franklin Arias, Miguel Bleis and Brooks Brannon. And that proposal is utterly absurd and worse than anything I’ve seen on any message board. lol

OK... Sporting News is just trolling? Do they have an editor preview shit before it's posted?

First, this cat says Sox should get Guerrero to play opposite Devers - then they say Devers would be in the trade...

"Outside of being division rivals with the Blue Jays, no team matches up better with Toronto than the Boston Red Sox," wrote Williams. "You know what would quickly start to turn the vibes around at Fenway Park after an early string of high-profile whiffs in free agency? Pulling off a deal for Guerrero to man the opposite corner from Rafael Devers."

Williams also noted that the Blue Jays could get Wilyer Abreu who won a Gold Glove in 2024, his first full year in the big leagues. Devers and Abreu would be good immediate return in a trade for Guerrero. Devers is a three-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger.
