Fans still butt hurt about the amount of money professional athletes make still cracks me up. You would take the most money offered too if you were in his position.

Reminder... John Henry purchased the Red Sox a little over 20 years ago for $380 million.
And he probably spent that much repairing and upgrading Fenway in the years since, too. I think he’s redone just about everything in Fenway at this point.

Not necessarily. Not everyone is wired that way. There are other factors are work, especially if you are going to receive generational wealth, regardless.

I wouldn’t

Uh huh.

You would if you were going to live in NY anyway, and thought that the team that was giving you more money was more likely to be in contention for a longer period of your contract than the other team that offered you less money for one more year.

Like somebody else already posted: lots of yankees are on the wrong side of 30, their contracts are prretry bloated, and the farm system isnt amazing.

This isnt to say that Soto is right, just that it isnt that tough of a reason for him to move crosstown.

Tom Brady took less because he had an incredibly wealthy wife and he had already made a ton of money. MJ did as well as he received millions from sponsors and he was made whole at the end of his deal. That's it, that's the list as far as I can see. Perhaps there are one or 2 others that I am not aware of.

Which would result in 99.999% of all professional athetes in any sport looking to maximize their income in the short window they have, which is what I had claimed. And there is nothing wrong what so ever with an athlete taking the biggest offer. If someone is willing to pay that much this is now the player's value.

I was offered more money to move to Florida and I turned it down.... So, I'm kinda like MJ & Tom Brady.

Yeah, but those two weren’t going to work at the Birdcage bar with Armand and Albert…..

Not to get too far into this, but guys take less money all the time. Many players want to be in a certain geographic area or have kids in schools or don’t want to uproot their families etc….

Just last week, for example, Shane Bieber took less than other teams offered because he wanted to be in Cleveland. Charlie Morton did the same with ATL. Xander Bogaerts signed a team-friendly extension with the Sox a while back because he wanted to be there. Jared Weaver did the same with the Angels. Then you have guys that take less to chase a ring and be on a contending team. I’m sure there are lots of examples in other sports, too. Money isn’t everything in all cases.

Max Fried expected to sign by Thursday, according to Ken Rosenthal. Yankees, Red Sox and Blue Jays among the finalists(which makes sense after losing out on Soto).

Add: I don’t think the Yankees will lose out here if they really do want him more than Burnes.

Good point. He left money on the table once, but wasn’t going to do that twice. The same can be said for the likes of Freddie Freeman, Jose Altuve, Mike Trout & Clayton Kershaw. All took “team friendly” deals at first but maxed out their deals after that.
