I don't think the O's run away with anything. There are still quite a few flaws on this team that need to be addressed.

This. The lineup has plenty of HR power, but they're 12th in the AL in OBP, which has held back their offense (only 7th in the AL in runs scored).

Caleb Joseph: .280 OBP in 168 PA
Chris Davis: .307 OBP in 392 PA
Jonathan Schoop: .254 OBP in 334 PA
J.J. Hardy: .312 OBP in 423 PA
Manny Machado: .318 OBP in 329 PA
David Lough: .287 OBP in 147 PA
Adam Jones: .313 OBP in 486 PA
Nick Markakis: .351 OBP in 516 PA
Nelson Cruz: .330 OBP in 470 PA
Steve Pearce: .361 OBP in 255 PA
Ryan Flaherty: .270 OBP in 201 PA
Delmon Young: .361 OBP in 155 PA
Matt Wieters: .339 OBP in 112 PA
Nick Hundley: .263 OBP in 100 PA

This doesn't have anything to do with the AL East but man I did not realize the Braves are playing so poorly

I've been baffled all year by this team. I still don't understand how this team is 4 games ahead of Toronto. I guess we've just been very lucky that the other 4 teams in the division have a lot of issues to deal with as well, making this a very winnable division.

Davis looks well on his way to the Adam Dunn/Mark Reynolds strikeout territory, along with flirting with the Mendoza line with his average. He also isn't putting up the homer's like last year, not that I was expecting a repeat of that, but expecting at least around 35-40 possibly. Cruz has been awful since the All-Star break. And for the life of me I still don't understand why Buck constantly plugs Flaherty in the lineup at 2nd base as I'd rather see Schoop get the majority of the playing time to see if he can sink or swim. Flaherty is about as much of a guaranteed out as you can get. Wieters' injury definitely hurt the lineup a lot as it looked like he was going to have a very good season. Neither Joseph or Hundley have provided much offense but at least Joseph has been very good at throwing out guys trying to steal.

As for the pitching, I think we definitely have a solid bullpen. The only guy there that I regularly worry about when he's in there is Tommy Hunter. As for the starters, it seems to me from what I've seen that they are very inconsistent. They'll have a few games where they pitch around 7 innings or so and then they'll go on a stretch where they are lucky to get through the 5th.

Not only did Cashman call his Rays counterpart, Andrew Friedman, about trading for Price, he also dialed up the Red Sox's Ben Cherington to discuss Jon Lester and John Lackey. Those conversations didn't get very far.
Both GMs told Cashman they had been given approval by ownership to trade their elite pitchers anywhere in the majors -- except to the Yankees.
Cashman expected as much from the Red Sox. Who do you think came up with the term "Evil Empire" anyway? He held out a sliver of hope on Price, but Friedman soon gave him the thumbs-down. So the Yankees, the contender that most wanted an ace-type starter, got shut out while the two teams that least needed one — the Tigers and A's — wound up with Price and Lester, respectively.

Flaherty's been pretty disappointing, I thought he would have been a good utility player. Wanted the Sox to take him in the Rule V draft.

Weird thing is, 5 of the Orioles' 6 starting pitchers have an ERA+ around 99-110, Ubaldo Jimenez being the exception.

You would think the Yankees had 4 CY winners pitching this series. Tigers offense is non-existent.

I am just hoping that Ubaldo isn't the type of player that only has great seasons when his contract is about to end. If that's the case, it's going to be a long 2 1/2 years at least.

Flaherty is the type of guy that I do think is a good utility guy, to get maybe a spot start to rest a guy. As a guy that makes the majority of the starts at 2nd, no way. I honestly can't think of another team off the top of my head that would use the guy as their everyday starting 2nd baseman. That's why I'd like to see Schoop get more playing time as it's hard to get into a rhythm playing sparingly like Buck has been doing.

Ubaldo wasn't even great in his contract year last year. A 115 ERA+, 1.33 WHIP, 2.4 K/BB while averaging 5.7 innings per start....O's fans should've been really skeptical from the start.

O's fans didn't want Jimenez, we wanted Ervin Santana.
