Yankee fans, what needs to improve most for us to claim that #1 spot in the East?

I have really liked our hitting as of late. Our defense has been decent, but that is where I see the most improvement is needed.

Hitting needs to be more consistent. Pitching has been good most of the year

I have really liked our hitting as of late. Our defense has been decent, but that is where I see the most improvement is needed.

Yankees lineup, by month:
April/March: .261/.326/.406, 107 OPS+, 110 runs in 26 games
May: .255/.318/.381, 97 OPS+, 118 runs in 28 games
June: .240/.305/.359, 91 OPS+, 98 runs in 27 games (lol)
July: .253/.303/.373, 90 OPS+, 63 runs in 16 games (lol)

Bad game for the yanks all around. We had some opportunities to score some runs but we failed in addition to the piss poor defense

Red Sox finally showing signs of life on offense. Batting .279/.355/.406 (115 OPS+) in 15 games this month. And that doesn't include tonight's 14-1 rout. Sox are easily playing their best baseball since last year. Hopefully they can get it together and make a run, but I remain pessimistic. Nava's been hitting well since getting recalled from AAA and even Drew is starting to show signs of life.

Sox lineup was pretty damn bad last month (.230/.297/.346 and scored 84 runs in 28 games). Granted, the 2012 Red Sox hit like Yuniesky Betancourt in September/October that year (batting .216/.267/.321 with a 64 OPS+ and scored a whopping 85 runs in 29 games). Making the June 2014 Red Sox look like Murderer's Row.

Kelly Johnson hasn't shown the power the Yankees hoped he would. Solarte came back down to earth after his great start. Zealous Wheeler has been fun to watch, but is not a MLB caliber player. Headly should be an upgrade at third defensively, and has the potential to be a plus hitter.

Why are Yanks having such trouble scoring at home? Weird how this is trending quickly this year. Maybe it is just me. Sure seems that way to me.
