Athletics acquired OF Rafael Rincones from the Red Sox for OF Rajai Davis.

Rincones, 18, hit .258/.373/.369 with one homer, 19 RBI and eight steals in 57 games with the Red Sox's Dominican Summer League affiliate this year. He remains a ways away from making his major league debut.

Sale had a bad game again last night vs. Cleveland. Got to hope he finds his stride as Red Sox/Indians could happen in the playoffs.

1967 really marked a turning point for the Red Sox. They didn't win the WS, but they got there after a 47 year stretch of mediocrity (with only one pennant in 1946). Since then, they've had 40 (41 if they finish above .500) seasons above .500. The only franchise with more winning seasons since then are the Yanks (42 going on 43). Sox were actually ahead of them until their recent struggles in 2012 and 2014-15. Their longest stretch of sub-.500 ball over this 50 year span was 92-94 (and that includes an 80-82 season). They had 16 consecutive winning seasons from 1967-82.
