still ahead of hack's pace...

No, Cabrera is not ahead of Hack's pace (191). Nor is he ahead of Greenberg's pace for the Tigers record (183). I think Miggy is on pace for about 170, which was Greenberg's second-best season. Still a ridiculous amount of RBI should Miggy get there.

HR derby is a joke. Im just saying the champ should return....dunk contest is a joke too.....havent watched that for awhile now. The AS break is the worst time of summer. Boring 3 days with no REAL baseball. Do you think a twin or astro cares who wins? They arent contending for a title. Most players dont care. All about $$$$$$$$$$

It's always about $$$$$ for Selig, and nothing else.

Not for the tigers...how big is his contract for a team thats needs a 5 or 6 hitter? If he was a 2nd baseman maybe....but not many teams wanna pay alot for a 1B/DH with not much power anymore.

He absolutely would hit 5th for the Tigers or at the very least 6th. Position wise it would be tough. As they don't need an upgrade there. But based on production he is easily the 5 hitter on the Tigers.

Power is coming on a bit. Hope he has some value for pitching here late. Yanks may want him, Idk what they got to offer though.

I always really liked Justin Morneau and wanted him to be a Tiger. Not sure how much he has left now though.

Yeah, he's been my favorite Twins player the last decade or so but you're right, he's not the player he once was but IMO he could still help a contender...

Alright, I guess Doug is like Verlander and doesn't have the HEART.

Can't show up after a nice ole beating.

The Tigers pitching took a beating yesterday, Indians and Royals are creeping closer. It is near All-Star break. It would be a shame for Detroit not to make the playoffs with all that talent..

On the other side of the coin, my Twins are folding up vs. AL East. Or maybe just folding. Gibson looked decent, but I am thinking more and more it is 2015 before we smell .500. Maybe 2016. Time to jettison big contracts of Morneau and Willingham, let them have a shot at the playoffs. Teams like Toronto, Pittsburgh might be willing to buy in August.

Starting the 2013 season, the 'faces' of the Tigers were Cabrera, Fielder, and Verlander. The big problem was closer/bullpen.

Two out of the three 'faces' are mis-firing....and the closer/bullpen issue has not been solved. I know that, eventually, all failure will be laid at Jim Leyland's doorstep...it is S.O.P. for baseball fandom. However, I hope that, if the Tigers do fail.....whether it is at the division level or in the playoffs....that some fans are smart enough or perceptive enough to realize that Leyland would not be the key component to any failure.

Right now Detroit is no better than a .500 ball club. Of Course they should be better than that. But, quite simply, this is a one man offensive show with sporadic support from other players. The starting pitching is currently struggling....even Scherzer is not "lights out". The bullpen depth is awful and the closer situation feels like they are on a "fingers-crossed" gambit. The infield defense is porous, team speed is terrible, and sometimes even basic fundamentals seem lacking. Has Leyland hurt the club? IMO, no more than he has helped them. He plays ''big inning' ball on a team that is built for that. Does he mis-manage the bullpen? He has....but I don't think he is any worse than a large group of managers that still cling to the old "setup man/closer" routine - when they don't have the consistency in the pen to do that.

I've been saying for months....the Tigers will do the same thing as last year....they will not pull away from Cleveland or the Royals and will need some help come September (i.e. - their division rivals will have to struggle as much as they do).

Fielder is still on pace for well over 100 RBI so I wouldn't exactly call him a misfire. That average needs some work though.

I was about to say and Miggy is making up for him anyway.

And Scherzer is making up for Verlander

Homerism aside, the Tigers are all but certain to pass 90 wins this season. Looking at the overall schrdule after the break, there are very few remaining series vs. teams over .500. While the Tigers have occasionally stumbled on lesser teams, they will play so many series against those clubs that it's more than certainly balance out.

There's just no way that the weaker teams are going to be able to handle the Tigers solid rotation and 5+ RPG offense.. not hapnin' Also, one should figure on Detroit making deadline deals to fill out their pen, AND, unlike last season when they had alot of good clubs on the schedule in the 2nd half, the opposite is true this season. Tigers are almost certainly playing in October as long as they stay even reasonably healthy.
