I'd never say never. Nolan Ryan had a couple sup-par seasons in his early 30s (3.72 and 3.60), then bounced back to 3.35, 1.69, 3.16 and 2.98 over his next four seasons. For sure, we can't predict this for Verlander, I can only say that one bad 2-month stretch or even one bad season does not mean doom and gloom for a guy who just reached age 30.

Yeah Rolling has a bit of extreme optimism. We are bad. Hanging around because of a few bright spots but the offense is too inconsistent and bullpen finally taking a bit of a toll.

Except, I'd bet that the Tiger ride will get a lot closer (and less depressing) to a WS than the ride with the Twins.

Less depressing? I don't think so, Twins fans don't expect anything from the club this year, Tigers fans expect the Tigers to win. But I do agree the ride for Tigers fans will be much more fun up until they fail to win the World Series...

Hmm, they may get closer and it possibly may be more enjoyable. But in the end it is at least equally depressing ending a season not being the winner. It may even be more depressing in Tigers case as they would have gotten so close.

I don't get depressed about things I can't control. If the Tigers don't make the playoffs, I'd be disappointed....but close is better than far....and gives hope for the future.

Ain't that the truth!?! My pick to beat em in the ALCS, the Angels, won't be either. Cardinals might just get another World Championship by default. I'm not sure how many that would be since Cleveland's last,...
