I'd never say never. Nolan Ryan had a couple sup-par seasons in his early 30s (3.72 and 3.60), then bounced back to 3.35, 1.69, 3.16 and 2.98 over his next four seasons. For sure, we can't predict this for Verlander, I can only say that one bad 2-month stretch or even one bad season does not mean doom and gloom for a guy who just reached age 30.
