And people bitched and moaned that KC was going "All In" for 2013...

Funny fans bitch when their team spends money(see tiger fans).....but yet fans bitch when their greedy owners dont spend...

Funny on MLBtonight last night, the host said, fans just want their owners to spend their money back on the team, not pocket it......

Cost of living is going to go up....every year fans will bitch about money and contracts and who got over paid....does it really matter? In 6-8 yrs 15-20 million a year might be handed out to alot of players.....the tigers just gave rajai davis 5 million a year!

All of their profits go back into the team???? Seriously???? Socialism?

What does 5-8 years down the road have to do with NOW? Are you saying your team should go ahead and spend carelessly now, because of something that MIGHT happen in the future? [dumbest thing, I've read in a long time]

Cleaves has bitched about EVERY Detroit Tiger move this off-season. I mean everyone. He has down played the Nathan signing, called the Davis and Joba signings stupid. The Fielder trade, according to cleaves was wrong - and it hurt his feelings. The Fister trade? According to him, we were inches away from the end of civilization on that one. He has declared the Tigers out of the playoff picture and the team a mere shell of its former (non-World Series winning) self. His message to Tiger fans is to be prepared to be laughed at by AL Central foes (I'm not kidding). According to our Negativity Guru, the days of Mike Maroth, Shane Halter, and bobby Higginson have returned. Randy Smith is knocking at the door.

Tigers are saved:suds:

Joba Chamberlain's one-year deal with the Tigers is worth $2.5 million, reports Buster Olney of ESPN.
Chamberlain could earn more with performance-bonuses. While the 28-year-old right-hander has seen his career go off course since he burst onto the scene in 2007 and 2008, the Tigers are willing to gamble on a turnaround. It's not a bad gamble at this price, though it might have been a better bet to bring back Jose Veras rather than turn down his $4 million option

I'm gonna have to agree the Davis and Joba signings are stupid and trading Fister and Prince was also stupid, but as a Twins fan I love it. I do think the Nathan signing was a good move for the Tigers however.

Twins looking to add 1 more starter. Arroyo, Garza, Pelfrey or Maholm.

Arroyo or Garza please. Absolute no to Pelfrey.

Will the Fielder trade look stupid if it allows Detroit to keep some combination of Cabrera, Scherzer and Verlander in the near future? The fact that DD found a way to get out of that awful contract they gave Fielder is a win. Maybe not this year....but think about how much cash Detroit would have tied up in that guy for 7 years. A Twin fan SHOULD have wanted Fielder to stay in Detroit and tie up salary while the Twins - with Buxton, Sano, Mauer and some other kids, rise up in the standings.

I just think when you are as close as the Tigers are you don't trade away major pieces, if they don't win in 2014 then trade Fielder, I would have given the team one more year and just added a couple pieces.

They already offered Pelfrey a 2 year deal, no chance Garza comes back, doubtful on Maholm but Arroyo could still be an option.

That was an option, of course. IMO, Detroit finances told them to act now instead of later. Cutting $$$ I thought would come by trading Scherzer for prospects and keeping Fielder. (Of course, I felt they were stuck with Fielder's fat body and fat contract.) It appears to me that Detroit's real decision was either keep things the same and chance having to cut spending, in a big way, in two years (re: Cabrera contract) or start re-arranging spending now - even if it meant watering the team down a little. Of course some Tiger fans feel let down if management doesn't put an All Star at every spot - regardless of cost.

I would not call the Davis and Joba signings stupid. If Joba bounces back and pitches sub 3.00 era then Dave D is a genius. It's risk reward and I would have to think that Dave D has some insight. I would have liked a few other guys but we are talking about a 7th inning setup man that has closing experience.

Davis is a platoon guy with speed. He hits righties well and is a defensive specialist in a park where you need speed. Outside of Choo who would run between 130-140 million who was a better FA OF that was willing to sign a short term deal? Raul Ibanez? not.

As for Fister I hate to see him go and truth be told I would have rather seen Detroit trade Max for a package. The Prince trade was a contract dump and can't be judged until we know what Detroit will do long term. The Prince trade should make the Central be pissed as it gives Detroit flexibility. If they were locked into that deal for the length Detroit can't make any significant moves for the next 2-3 years at least.

Detroit moving away from Peralta was no huge loss as his season last year was well above his average. Infante hurts as he was a consistent hitter but Kinsler is pretty much an even trade off. Better wheels and better fielder.

As for the Twinkies until they start putting better guys around Mauer I wouldn't be concerned about the Tigers. Stupid move = getting rid of Cuddyer. The guy just killed Detroit I am so happy to see him in the NL!

Of course it was my opinion, I just don't see why you'd trade away a couple great pieces when you are so close, funny thing is I don't remember most Tigers fan bashing Fielder until he was a no show in the playoffs. I understand your idea of thinking toward the future but you can never be sure what future you will have, you got to try and win now. IMO the moves the Tigers have made have not been of the let's win now type of thinking.

If you think Davis who is 33 years old and has never really played a full season and has a career OBP of .316 is what will bring the Tigers a title I think you might be a bit off.

So it's a what if with Jaba? What if he gets hammered and has an ERA around 6.00 all year. I don't understand thinking about 2 or 3 years from now, who knows what can happen in those years, you have to try and win now.

The Twins didn't really "get rid" of Cuddyer, he signed elsewhere, it happens and the Twins were going nowhere, I really wasn't too sad to see him go and wish him the best.

Did I say I was concerned about the Tigers? Nope, simply voicing my opinions, they took a step back going into 2014 and I really don't think that's opinion.

Was it?

His rate stats in 2013 was very similar to his rate stats in 2011, and the Tigers will need to replace his most recent production (2013, although it was in 107 games). FWIW, FanGraphs and rotochamp are both predicting Iglesias to have a pretty bad year offensively, so it could be a bigger loss than you're thinking Peralta is if Iglesias does indeed struggle.

The Tigers are weaker in the bullpen, until/unless DD makes some other moves. On offense, they lost two guys who hit .300 last season (Peralta and Infante), but those guys really aren't .300 hitters. They lost a 100-RBI man in Fielder. But they upgraded speed and defense tremendously. How many net runs will that be worth next season? I call it a wash.

The big head-scratcher is the Fister deal, which puts us behind last year's team overall... again, until/unless DD makes some other moves.

On the other hand -- I don't see that any ALC team other than the Twins has gotten noticeably better than last season, so far. And for the Twins, Phil Hughes and Ricky Nolasco make them better only because their starting pitching was the pits last season.

wow, an objective Tigers fan...nice view points and pretty on point. Agree on Peralta and Infante both...Kinsler could probably get 100 rbi's in the 4 hole also..just has to hit above .270.

Infante wants 10 mil a year for 4 years.....definately still, Boni at 3 mil > than Infante at 10 or even 8 mil, without a doubt.
