holycow.

west coast football is not a joke any more...

the seahawks just crushed the saints! wow. pity the team that has to play the seahawks at home in a play off game. they are dam good. would need a QB with a good arm to beat them...like a payton or a brady or a STAFFORD!

AFC West and NFC West > the other divisions.

Chiefs will finish 13-3 or maybe 12-4. They will be fine and have a great chance to win a playoff game on the road against some equally questionable teams in Cincy and Indy. The Chiefs have shown that they can keep up with the best, no cigar yet, but it looks promising. No more Denver though, please, uncle, UNCLE!

Edit: Raiders>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Vikings

Chargers>>>>>>>> Rodgersless Packers

Chiefs>>>>> Bears

Denver... obvious

Fister should have returned a starter even if this is a down the line move for prospects. A utility guy, a specialist, and a decent prospect…decent not great! Fister was under team control for 2 more years and would have cost Detroit 7 million next season.

Why the fuck help the Nats out to dump salary. Because thats the way it looks a salary dump 2 years in the future!

I sure hope the Tigers have a brilliant signing to make this seem less than the goat fuck it currently looks like!

Certainly a head scratcher at the moment. Keep in mind Tampa did a similar deal and got Wil fucking Myers :gaah:.

Yes, but Myers was a known commodity. It was widely believed he was a top prospect not just for KC but in all of the minors. From what I have read the prospect Detroit got back was the 5-7th best in the Nats system.

When you are so close to the ring why reinvent the wheel?

Let's not go overboard -- Fister is an average #2, solid #3 starter -- he isn't a #1 like Shields. I've read up quite a bit on the guys they received. Robbie Ray averaged over 10 k's/9 in AA as a starter with a 11-5 record and 3.30 ERA and was one of the top 100 prospects in all of baseball last year (i think he was like 76th on the list).

Ian Krol was a top 10 prospect in all of the minors in 2010, as well as the Oakland minor league pitcher of the year. He had a 1.21 ERA out of the bullpen in triple A last year before getting called up by the Nationals.

Both players are 22 and left handed. So it isn't as if the Tigers got nothing out of the deal. I like to give Dombrowski and his scouts the benefit of the doubt, as they usually come away smelling like roses after every trade.

Lol, yeah right. Ray has never been mentioned in any top 100 lists. Krol's never cracked any top 100 lists either, let alone "top 10 prospect in all of the minors." Sickels rated him 12th in the A's organization at the beginning of the 2013 season. Pretty big difference. Keith Law doesn't consider any of them to be top 100 prospects either.

Krol has a 1.21 ERA last year, but you seem to ignore that they came in AA, not AAA. There's also a pretty big difference there. And it was in less than 30 innings. He didn't embarrass himself in his brief time in the majors, but he certainly wasn't good either (3.95 ERA, 97 ERA+ (both very mediocre for a RP), 27.1 IP, 22/8 K/BB (7.2 K/9) in 27.1 IP).

Who are Ian Krol and Robbie Ray? - Bless You Boys

Ray and Krol are intriguing prospects, but I just don't see how they're worth it for a guy like Fister (who was worth over 12 WAR over the last 3 years).

So the Tiggers get Nathan for two years I see...

How many former Twins players will it take for the Tigers to finally win?

I am not sure I would have had Nathan as my first choice for closer.

Detroit still needs to find another guy like Balfour to round out the pen. I don't get how Detroit didn't get Tyler Clippard out of the Fister deal?

A night of reflection and reading the experts has done nothing to change my mind that this was just a bad bad trade.

Even if the Tigers get Choo for LF or Beltran I think they could have gotten a better deal from someone!

I hated Nathan when he pitched in our division. He freaking OWNED the Tigers. Gonna be nice to not have to face him.

Appears Detroit needed the money they saved by trading Fister, to help pay for Nathan. Illitch's pockets are not bottomless. Since Fister, Porcello, and Scherzer were known to be on the market....trade talk about them was, no doubt, been on going for weeks. The trade with the Nationals was the best DD got offered.....he needed to cut salary before signing Nathan.

With Ellsbury gone to the Yanks, Beltran being offered 48 million and 3 years from the Royals presumably, and Choo being prohibitively expensive for all but a select few teams, I am wondering what lengths the Tigers will do to go for Choo. If not, do they overpay for Beltran even more than the not so mysterious team did?
