on another note- Kwan is the first rookie that qualified for the batting title- since the 2007 season (Dustin Pedroia) to finish the season with more walks (62) than strikeouts (60).
How many homers did he have?

Asian Gary Pettis.

Without as many stolen bases
only 6.....but I think he sees that increase next year. I dont know if he will get to 15- but I think he will get to 10. Good hitters often grow into more power.

He got 89 runs- I would like to see him get to 100 runs next year....19 SB is pretty good in todays MLB.......

I think I could see Kwan get to 25 SB, 100 runs, 10 homers next year with a 290-310 avg., and 360-380 obp. With gold glove defense that is a valuable player.

I dont think he is ever going to be a 20-25 homer guy, but I think he will improve.

@dtgold88 @Shanemansj13

I have a sneaky suspicion the Guardians are going to shop Shane Bieber in the offseason. I think deep down he wants to go back to the West coast where he went to college and grew up.

With Espino, Bibee, Williams- I think that the Guardians are adverse to paying Bieber 30 million a year- esp. considering his velocity declining and his shoulder injury last year.

I read that one of the comps for a deal would be Robbie Ray who got 5 years 115 million- but they said that would almost assuredly not be enough.

If they could get him 5 years 25 million a year- 125 total- is that even a deal the Guardians would think is a good idea? I dont know.

One of the ideas I had was to trade Bieber to the Jays for a package centered around Alejandro Kirk.

Some other teams I could see that would be interested:

-Basically the whole AL East beside the Rays.

-Cubs- there will be pressure for them to compete. Not sure what we would really want.

-Dodgers- have a lot of good young guys- and they have a lot of questions in the rotation. Kershaw is getting older. I believe Heaney and Anderson are free agents. Buehler might not pitch next year with his elbow surgery.

-Rangers- they spent a lot of money on the lineup last year to compete and need pitching badly. They have some interesting guys.

-Giants- another team that has money and prospects

-Angels- need to prove to Ohtani and Trout they are trying to win.

-Red Sox might be interesting- I like Triston Casas.

-Blue Jays- have to be disappointed how it ended and adding a pitcher like Bieber would be huge.

It would suck to trade him for the short term- but obviously if you plan on dealing him- you need to deal with him now with 2 years remaining. It might be a step-back for the team in the short term- but this run was premature considering the teams best prospects are still to come. I hope Bieber is open to an extension- and it would be interesting to see what he would say to 5 years 120 if the Guardians would go that far for him.
Guessing they approach him about an extension and comes down to what he wants. If he wants a mega deal and/or says he will test FA then now might be the best time to move him....and we could get a haul, I would think. Teams you mention in play for sure.

No doubt I trust this FO no matter what they decide.

agree.....could also see him moving to CF if they decided to move Straw in a deal for a stud hitter with power

I dont know if they would give him up- but Jung on Texas is a very interesting hitter. He is a 3rd basemen but you could def move him to first if need be. He might be an untouchable guy though.

Bieber will clearly get more than what Robbie fucking Ray got haha.

Hes like 4 years younger than Ray was with his deal, and better.

yaaah.....i dunno if he would even take 5 years 125- and i dont know if the Guardians would for-sure give it to him.

2 years left.....i know they love dealing guys but maybe this is the rare scenario where you just let him play it out if they are in contention and the White Sox dont beat our ass and get their shit together.

outside of Cleveland- people dont really know- but Bieber had some real shoulder problems last year and his velocity was down this entire year....and that is at age 27.

he is still awesome- but when you are 91-92---- your margin of error is starting to get a little slimmer......maybe he gets back up to 94-95....we shall see.

He's still able to get more than that. 5/$125MM isn't a lot for a #1 or 2 starter. The buyer will have to do their due diligence and get the medicals done by experts.

Something to monitor maybe.

But he still threw 200 innings and had a era of 2.88 with a FIP that lined up with it at 2.87.

Guy is fucking good. And absolutely should get paid more than Robbie fucking Ray. And waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more when you consider hes 4 years younger.

part of it is though- that they would tear up the next 2 years of his deal- where he is only going to make about a total of 20 million.

5 years 125......means about a 15M dollar raise in each of the first 2 years of the deal....not sure if it would make enough of a difference or not.

Marcus Stroman gets $25,000,000 a year.

Let’s be real here guys.
stroman did get to free agency though- Bieber is still 2 years away--

giving him 25 a year the next 2 years instead of 10 or so is an extra 30 million over the first 2 years.....

not saying its gonna happen- I tend to think it wont- but Bieber still has 2 years where he has to remain good and healthy before he is an actual free agent.....

getting the guaranteed money and big raises the next 2 years are not small considerations.

They aren’t small, but these guys are competitors to the extremem. And prone to gamble on themselves.

Michael Harris inked that deal this summer but he got seven years of raises before he would’ve hit FA.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out. I’d like to see you guys be able to keep him, however that goes down.

they need him

Mahle should be back. Twins need relief help more than anything Ithink.

Maybe the one outfielder that got hurt that I like will come around hitting wise....cant remember the name off the type of my head...k....

kirliloff......I still think Kiriloff can come around.....Miranda looked pretty decent at 3B.....they need Correa though

Gray, Mahle, Ober, Ryan is not bad- but they could use another starter.....but relief pitching is a must for them.

I'd love to see the Guardians:

-trade for Murphy--- or sign Vazquez for C

-find a 1B---- I dont know if signing Abreu is realistic but he would bea great fit. Christian Walker would be a great fit in a trade. Trey Mancini would be interesting.

-figure out the rotation- do they trade Bieber? Are Civale and Plesac back? Will Williams and/or Espino be ready? Getting a legit 3rd starter behind McKenzie and Bieber would be huge. Quintrell did not do enough in the playoffs to be a reliable playoff pitcher.

Kirilloff needs to cut down on the ground balls, but he isn't really striking out much (doesn't walk, but I don't think walks were ever going to be a relevant part of his hitting anyway) and he's making contact. It took Bogaerts a while to cut down on the ground balls and for his power to fully translate. In fairness, Kirilloff was also dealing with a wrist injury.
