Interesting bait here... I think I'd rather see AJ Green on here than Chad Johnson. And Haloti Ngata over Geno Atkins. Having a hard time with Carlos Dunlap on here. I'd take James Harrison.

Agreed on Green and Harrison. Pretty cool exercise though.

I'm with you on Dunlap. I liked him, but I wouldn't add him there. I would put Myles Garrett and TJ Watt on the DE list. Suggs was a beast, but I would rather have those two I think. Ken Riley over Mel Blount probably. I am with you....as great as AJ Green was, and/or Chad Johnson, I think it is pretty easy to see that Ja'Marr Chase is better than both of them.

I think it is kind of a toss up between Dunlap and Ngata. Dunlap was more of a pass rushing DT, Ngata was more of a run stuffing NT. I guess that depends on what you are looking for out of that position opposite Mean Joe Greene. I am definitely on board with the rest. Ward and his toughness, he was kind of like a TE the way he played. I could see Chad or AJ maybe getting a nod over him if you are looking for 3 take the top off the defense type of WR's. If you are looking for a gritty, work your ass off type of WR who is great at blocking, maybe the tough catch in traffic and bringing swagger to the field, then Ward is your #3. Different play styles.

I know that Garrett, Watt and Chase don't really fit the mold because of career lengths, but I think they are the best at their positions.

That was a voluntary practice, which made it even funnier that Trey was there. I'm with @Cincyfan78 on this one - I absolutely want Trey to stay with the Bengals and I think he's a hell of a football player. That said, he's an extremely weird dude and a bit of a bitch. He has a good point about the Bengals being cheap and disingenuous but has a hard time articulating his point.
And - this is the THIRD YEAR he's gone to them for a contract - and then ran to the media when things weren't going his way, or fast enough. I mean - the Bengals are also wrong, but dang...Trey isn't making it easier on himself, either.

I think you mean Atkins...but point remains. It's also hard because really Ngata was more of a 1-Tech, if I'm remembering and Geno was a 3-tech...so, while both are DT's, they really aren't the same position. Geno was pretty stout against the run, IIRC, as well for a guy that was "light" and could also get after the QB.

Let’s be honest. There’s not much he can do. The game is already rigged against players and he’s playing for one of the poorest owners in the league who struggles to make NFL finance work to begin with. I don’t have to tell you. It’s just a poor organization and a poor situation.

Oh, no doubt. Being an NFL owner who's main finance is the revenue from the NFL is not ideal. It sucks. As guarantees continue to rise, and more and more players require escrow for their guaranteed portion - the Bengals are going to struggle to have actual cash on hand.

They also don't do themselves any favors with how they structure contracts. They rarely guarantee money in future years (after year 1) and work to pay all cash up front rather than spreading it out. Not only does it hurt their ability to better utilize the cap, it kills them in not being able to spread some of that money out.

Used to be - you could nearly count on every contract signed by the Bengals to be virtually guaranteed as they almost NEVER cut guys, unless there was a real warrant to do so. They held on to guys as they "honored" their contracts on their end, and expected players to do the same. So, while there wasn't a "guarantee" of cash in future years, you almost always knew you were getting the full contract. That is no longer the case as the Bengals are now moving on from players before the end of their contracts, and asking guys to renegotiate and take less (Moss, Stone this year alone). If you are going to do that as an organization, that is fine - but then you have to realize players are going to request more in the way of guarantees and the Bengals refuse to acknowledge this point. They need to bend here, and figure it out. They are going to waste a generational QB...

No I meant Dunlap. He doesn't deserve to be on there, over other names. I made a case for Atkins versus Ngata, but it depends on what you are looking for in your defense...a pure NT run stuffer like Ngata, or a pass rushing DT like Atkins. Cases can be made for both.

Anyone watch Stadium Lockup on A&E? It's pretty good

Yep - it's actually pretty good and interesting. I'm always amazed at how many people really just think the rules don't apply to them, and that cursing at security or yelling as loud as they can is going to get them their way...
