We've seen a pic now and if representative of the whole I think we can safely say this was abuse and not discipline no matter where you stand on corporal punishment.

Nope.

At best it's discipline that was just a bit too hard. That is not abuse and is not worth the effort of the justice system at all.

I've had worse injuries walking through the woods.

How is that the disturbing part? It would be pretty common for the kid to reach back and cover his butt as he's about to get spanked/hit which would leave the marks on his hands.

The pictures out there look like a pretty harsh punishment to me. I think it was over the line for a simple spanking

I had yet to see the photos. My point was that if this was a simple case of discipline, why would the kid have lacerations on his hands? Now that I have seen the photos, it seems as if this may have been over the top discipline.

That's your logic, but im going to go with how its always been, and use my belt.
You should be allowed to discipline your child. Political correctness is controlling our lives.

Unfortunately society has changed for the worse regarding this issue.

We're talking about a 4 year old according to TMZ and Gawker. My dad literally knocked me the fuck out when I was a teenager and I admit I had it coming. But, beating a 4 year old until they bleed crosses a very clear line to me.

My dad spanked me on the buttocks with a leather strap. It was no big deal and it taught me to behave.

in jr high, the principle was a big, big really black guy...he had a paddle that was custom...he'd say "grab your ankles" and knock the shit out of you.

Of course, the school was huge, and busing had just started. Had fights daily.

But jump to today, if a principle even owned a paddle like that, it would be on CNN town hall, etc., and he'd probably go to jail...

No one is saying that, dude...... it's the type of discipline that's in question here.

Yeah, and of types of discipline, being spanked is the easiest and the one most would choose.

If people are choosing it, then it kind of renders your abuse point to be ridiculous.

Because it is normal for any human to raise their hands trying to block the hits.

Basically what it boils down to is he hit him a little too hard. It happens, especially if it was one of the first times he's been spanked. The proper thing at best is for the mother to call AD and say - hey, that's a bit too much. He might have already known on his own.

It's ridiculous to call this abuse, press charges or whatever.

Going by the story..if it is true...the kid had marks on his hands as if he was trying to stop the punishment. Marks on the thighs .Either AP was a bad aim or he just went to town on the kid. BTW .I saw nothing there that was life threatening in any way and back in the day we would be showing these to our friends the next day. Again...times have changed.

Those things are used all the time. It is common discipline. Our society has become so uptight on little things.

It's not like he punched the kid square in the face. It was a spanking, with a rod/tree branch.

If this was considered an awful crime throughout history basically every newborn child would be a prison baby.

Kinda sick you defend this guy because he plays for the Vikings.

Add me the nothing more than a gentle swat on the butt camp. Once the age of the child progresses past being affected by the shock of the action itself, it's time to end physical correction. Upping the ante to cause real pain is just losing it.
